WASHINGTON, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- The White House has run into its first public opposition over a proposed guest-worker program -- and it comes from within President Bush's own party.

The initiative, announced Jan. 7, would let millions of illegal aliens now in the United States remain as guest workers for renewable three-year periods if they have jobs. The aliens eventually could apply for permanent legal residence.

I think very highly of the President and agree with him on nearly everything, but he is wrong on this issue. We need to kick the ILLEGALS out, not reward their law-violating behavior. How can we control terrorists infiltrating our borders if we can't control fruit pickers?

I think Kyl and the others should insist the military be placed on the border, or something of equivalent strength, in exchange for this bill. We're just shooting in the wind if we don't stop new illegals from coming into the country.

I'm sure that those representatives from states like mine (Florida) who are catching hell on this issue shall kill this insane idea.

Tom Feeney sits on the Judiciary Committee.

Did you get a chance to talk to one of your Congressmen? Do they think they can stop it in the House?

Tancredo says the plan is going nowhere.

Let me get this straight: By sneaking into our country they know they're breaking the law. That's 1. By obtaining a SSN outside the legal process, they're breaking the law. That's 2. By presenting that SSN to an employer and signing a form stating that it is their SSN, they're breaking the law. That's 3. And in Mr. Bush's speech on this matter, he said that if these "guest workers" break the law, they will be sent back. Well, they've already broken at least 3 before they even passed "go". Close the borders!! This program is a very bad idea!

Just think how many illegal alien "American" babies will be born in three year - plus another three years - plus another three years.

And do you think these "guest workers" are going to work here for 3 years, living the American dream, and then just go home? Yeah, right.

Katherine Harris is on the fence. My $2,000 contribution is also until she decides.

I'm sure that those representatives from states like mine (Florida) who are catching hell on this issue shall kill this insane idea.

The irony here is that the state most affected by Rove's Hisperandering, California, has little or no voice in the matter.

California has no representation in the Senate to catch Bush's ear and Rove doesn't give a damn what the electorate in California thinks because Rove doesn't need California to reelect Bush.

As a conservative Californian I can only hope that conservatives in states that Bush does need for reelection speak up on my behalf.

If they get Social Security mailed back to them - they just might. Cost of living difference may entice them to return to their home country. Just think of the many Americans that retire to Mexico because of the cost of living.

"We need to kick the ILLEGALS out, not reward their law-violating behavior."

Di-to on that...I'm a naturalized citizen who came here legally. This program by GW is an insult to immigrants who played by the rules and asked to come here.

With 85% of the population against amnesty and illegal immigration, why on Earth would any politician of either party buck those odds? Something is really starting to smell.

Now, this would be news if the GOP decided to abandon W over this issue, like the so-called "Bush base" on FR.

Send the $2000 to Pat Toomey ... that is where it will do the most good.

In the general election, the best races needing support will be North Carolina, Illinois, Toomey in PA, and Louisiana and Florida. Focus on the Senate.

JMHO.
