"My faith in the wisdom of ordinary people took root in the mill towns of my youth. But injuries of my adulthood deepened that faith," he writes.
The book also includes lighter moments. There's Edwards as a young boy, transfixed by "The Fugitive" and "Perry Mason." There's the University of North Carolina law student giving his sweetheart an $11 engagement ring. Two nights after he married Elizabeth Anania, Edwards had to borrow money from his new in-laws to pay for a $22 motel room.
"We could only scrape up $20, and that included change we found on the floor of the car," Edwards writes. "I have always wondered what they said, or even thought, about their new son-in-law on that night. I never asked."
Edwards wrote "Four Trials" with John Auchard, an English professor at the University of Maryland. The 236-page book is published by Simon & Schuster.

Well, Grandfather Twilight and the woodland creatures of Iowa should push Edwards over the top. Kucinich's Iowa campaign manager just released the following statement:

ROTFL... this is about as important as McGovern backing Clark.
BA HA H HAH HAAHAA
ROTFL
Two losers backing losers.
In this case, definitely... two losers don't make a winner.

Perhaps it was all just a dating game and the only thing he really wanted out of his campaign was enough attention to get dates with all those adoring kooky leftist bimbos. ROFLMAO~~~ Sweetliberty, thank you for saying what I was thinking. Some guys will do anything to get a date.

A mom's ranting encouragement only goes so far. They will recover. We just have to trust in that.Thank you for those words of encouragement. I wish you all the best in gently guiding your daughter in the right direction. It sounds like you are going about things in a logical and worthwhile way.
As to steering my daughter towards DU, I'm only afraid that would encourage her. She has been a radical her entire life - precocious at an early age (IQ up in the stratosphere) and always championing the underdog. Which is fine - to a certain extent. She has taken it to the extreme and unless she has a life-altering experience (as I did - long story that I have incorporated into a novel), she may never see the error of her ways.
Meanwhile, I will keep praying up a storm that she comes around. My s-i-l, on the other hand, I feel has potential. But, he's afraid to contradict her - LOL. She definitely wears the pants in the family.
Love ya, (((((SL))))) - thank you.

I don't want to portray it as a meltdown. When you think about it, that's basically par for the course for most democrats. (They have tantrums like that in nearly every DU post.) Since it looks like Sharpton doesn't have a prayer, the next best man for President Bush to beat would be Dean. I'm going to characterize Dean's speech as enthusiasm and pray that lunatic never gets close to a nuclear football.

Well, that would be a little hard to do with a 25 year old who lives on her own, but your point is well taken.

Just say it, and she'll do the opposite. Until she's out of college, she'll think that the opposite of what her parents say is the right thing. Why do you think we have so many College Republican groups with all the leftists out there?

I'm beginning to think, though, that Weasley may be more than a "stalking horse", designed to unhorse Dean. He may also be a "decoy", designed to deflect attention from Edwards. And that Edwards may, in fact, be the "annointed" one I think you're spot on there. Despite his inexperience and ambulance-chasing past, he's a guy a lot of Independents and liberal Pubbies could support. ..... he's personally likeable, refrains from the usual mud-throwing, displays none of the policy inconsistencies of the others, .....very dangerous, indeed.
But where to you think Hillary fits in to this picture? His VP? 'Cause if Edwards happens to win, old Hill has to wait until 2012 to make her run ......something I don't think she's willing to do.

Just an update. I spoke to my daughter last night (before the SOTU), not the night before. We had a very *calm* and rational discussion about her "take" on the Kucinich comment.
She is very active in his campaign, but the only thing she had heard about support for Edwards came from the press, not Kucinich's campaign headquarters. She admitted she thought this was strange, but said as far as she was concerned, until she heard otherwise from "the horse's mouth," the campaign for Kucinich continued.
When I asked who she would support if/when she heard that Kucinich dropped out, she is undecided. It will either be Dean (*gag*) or Edwards. I asked if she had seen Dean go nuclear on TV and she said, "No," only that she had heard about it second-hand.
One bright note - she watches the FNC almost exclusively so that she can "Understand the *other side* and where you (meaning me) are coming from." She admits to liking Brit Hume. Perhaps there is hope? [G]
Thank you for your comments and questions.

"But where to you think Hillary fits in to this picture?" If the Clintons believe Bush is beatable, Clark will be thrown overboard and Edwards will be Hillary's VP. On the other hand, if they believe Bush is safe, Edwards will get their nod for the top spot -- while agreeing to retention of Clinton's control of the DNC.

Makes sense. When do you think the approximate deadline is for the Clintons to make the decision whether or not Bush is beatable? And if they decide that he is, and it's near the end of primary season (which it probably would be), do you think Hillary would have much of a problem taking over the convention and getting the delegates?
