I don't agree with your thesis here. I remember watching Evil Knievel as a kid.... and I didn't feel compelled to replicate his stunts.

Not too many kids are able to get together 10 greyhound busses, and build 100 foot ramps etc. This is really not comparable to the stupid idiot playground stunts being broadcast on Jackass. Spinning a merrygoround like a top, with a car a a rope doesn't really compare to what Knievel was doing. IMO....

Ahh, the benefits of Arnold.

Somethings are wrong because they are dangerous.

The War of Revolution was dangerous and in the eyes of some, wrong.
I think mixing morality in with danger or stupidity is wrong.  Maybe even dangerous.   :)

Darwin nothing. They parents should sue the maker of the Merry-Go-Round. It should have known that someone would wind a rope around it, attach it to a truck and make it spin so fast that people could be ejected. Do they have seat belts on the Merry-go-round? They should have. But for sure, they should have had some sort of protection, perhaps a fence or wall attached around the Merry-go-round. I bet the merry-go-round maker did not even have a warning sign on it. Also, did the owner of the park have a barricade up so that a truck could not get close to the merry-go-round or even a sign at the park entrance that said a rope should not be tied to the merry-go-round?

According to witnesses, seven teenagers attached a rope to a truck and wrapped it around a merry-go-round, then watched it spin as the truck pulled the rope away from the ride.

There are loved ones in the glory,
Whose dear forms you often miss;
When you close your earthly story,
Will you join them in their bliss?

Will the circle be unbroken?
By and by, by and by!
In a better home waiting
In the sky, in the sky?

One by one their seats were emptied,
One by one they went away;
Here the circle has been broken.
Will it be complete one day?

Will the circle be unbroken?
By and by, by and by!
In a better home waiting
In the sky, in the sky?

The Brits have a term, "death by misadventure" that I've always thought appropriate. It's a little gentler than "too stupid to live."

I bet there will be a lawsuit against the rope manufacturer because it did not say not to use the rope in this manner.

Then there will be a lawsuit against the truck manufacturer for not telling people not to do this with their trucks.

Then the merry go round manufacturer will be in the laswuit because they did not have a warning sticker on the merry go round stating not to use a rope and a pickup truck to spin it.

Anyone wanna bet?

I have a 12 year old. I raised him to have enough common sense not to do something this stupid. These parents will then try to sue mtv or whomever and then the lefties will scream freedom of speech and swear they are protected even though shows like this are worse than screaming fire in a crowded theatre. So instead of putting the money in a lawyers pocket I would do what Mel Gibson did in Ransom with the money.

By 2020, everyone under the age of 18 will have to wear an approved helmet at all times outside of their homes.

You just reminded me of one of those "Murphy's Laws" things.

It went like this:

"You can't fall off of the floor. Corollary: it takes children 4 years to learn this law."

Joe Hadenuf said: "Shows like Jackass and a few really ought to be put out of business. "

In the interests of advancing the conservative cause of holding people responsible for their own actions, I propose that Freepers should identify individuals who pre-date MTV who have deserved Darwin Awards. The rules shall be that names and dates must accompany the report.

For my entry I propose:

7/11/20- George Stevens, the “English Daredevil”, dies in his attempt to challenge Niagara in a Russian Oak barrel. An anvil used for ballast tore through the bottom of the barrel, leaving only his right arm inside.

I wonder if there was a cry to outlaw newspapers for having reported the story?

Let me help you with my entire quote.

"Shows like Jackass and a few others really ought to be put out of business. I know this probably wont be done, as common sense is no longer part of broadcast television or Hollywood".

"Does this mean that now that she's dead she will be voting Democrat?"

Must be great to be a member of a political party where the obituaries are like a roll of new members/voters.

"Did you people blame Evil Knievil for all the kids who were hurt jumping their bikes in the 70's?"

Or the Three Stooges?
Or Wiley Coyote and the Roadrunner?
Or Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck/Elmer Fudd/Yosemite Sam?

I watched all of these when I was young, stupid, and very impressionable, and I don't recall ever trying to attempt anything that I observed.

Aaron0617 -- what a maroon!
