While we go about ordinary living and gripe about the weather and our labors and how tired we are, here are a few things to reshape our perspective:
U.S. Army Pfc. Artura Franco, a member of 1st Squad, 3rd
Platoon, A Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment,
looks through a box of papers and identification cards
during a house raid in Samarra, Iraq, mid-December, 2003.
The battalion was participating in Operation Ivy Blizzard,
an effort to eliminate insurgents, secure control for the local
governing council, and leave
the city secure under the watch of Iraqi Civil Defense Corps
and police elements. U.S. Army photo by Spc. Benjamin R. Kibbey
This American was not watching the Football Playoff Game Sunday:
U.S. Army Spc. Ralf Logan, a rifleman with A Company, 1st Battalion,
8th Infantry Regiment, pulls security during a stop in a patrol
his squad was doing in Samarra, Iraq.

While we went to church, shopped, cleaned house, etc. and watched television:
U.S. Army Sgt. Reggie Martinez, a team leader with A
Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, searches
two Iraqi men with the assistance of a member
of his squad in Samarra, Iraq.
The men had been in a car the soldiers stopped
due to suspicious behavior during their patrol.
