"You have a much better chance of success in a bad situation with a basic knowledge of hand-to-hand combat training and no gun than you would with a gun and no training. This is completely counter, of course, to what concealed-carry fear-peddlers have successfully argued."
The author has this exactly bass akwards. Training is highly recomended.

I have to go work and earn some money for Bush to spend on illegals, gun control, and more socialism, so I can't respond to this BS right now.
I'm sure others will though :-)

This supposed conservative doesn't sound like much of a conservative. I guess if he's ever in harms way he better hope that the police are able to make it in time. And hopefully they won't have guns, because police officers mistakenly shoot innocents quite often...

You can call, e-mail and scream all you want, but in every single concealed-carry community in this country, it's happened.Proof, please.

This supposed conservative doesn't sound like much of a conservative.Especially when he writes a paragraph such as this:
I recently caught Michael Moore's "Bowling for Columbine," a movie that set me straight back in my seat, mainly because of his dead-on take on race-based fear and how it colors, if you will, the nation's gun ownership lust. He got it exactly right. It's brilliant.

All I own (so far) is a BB gun. But anti-gun nuts are edging me ever closer to starting a collection.
The beauty of the second amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it away. Tom J.??

Once fear takes root that deeply in your community, the bad guys have already won.
Stamp out fear, stay armed!

"...as a member of the conservative persuasion,...I recently caught Michael Moore's "Bowling for Columbine,"... He got it exactly right. It's brilliant." He's not a very persuasive "member of the conservative persuasion."

This guy is wrong. Getting a concealed carry permit means you have *had* training. My husband has a CC permit & he said after the training he is much LESS likely to shoot someone.

My there's so much here...
You'll never get to release the safety ...
So carry a revolver. Or a Glock.
that shiny .45 in your purse or glove box might as well be a rock
Yep.
That's why they make holsters.

This guy is terrible.
You have a much better chance of success in a bad situation with a basic knowledge of hand-to-hand combat training and no gun than you would with a gun and no training. This is completely counter, of course, to what concealed-carry fear-peddlers have successfully argued.
I suppose we should practice our hand-to-hand combat on your strawman, Mr. Grant?

In yet another interesting wrinkle, gun industry watchers now report that seniors are more likely than any other age group to carry a weapon....Never mind that crime on seniors has steadily dropped to low single-digits during the past 20 years.Hmmmmmm....seniors start carrying guns and crimes against them drop dramatically. This dipsh!t isn't much for critical thinking, is he?

All I see here is a lot of chest-beating from a guy who thinks he's tougher and braver than everyone else. I suspect that attitude would evaporate in about three seconds were he to be confronted by a real criminal intent on doing him real violence.
I have a fire extinguisher in my house. I guess that means my "fear" of fire is out in the open.
To: TERMINATTOR
This guy is full of it.
"Ask anyone in the business of self-defense, and he or she will tell you the simple premise for keeping yourself alive. It's this: You have a much better chance of success in a bad situation with a basic knowledge of hand-to-hand combat training and no gun than you would with a gun and no training. " I took two years of near daily hand to hand training in SF. And you know what? Then I weighed 170, body build, weight, and attitude ruled, just like boxing. You get a 260 guy, with no neck, moving like a NFL pulling guard...and you have really big problems. Like unconsciousness. Bad things can happen when you are unconsciousness.
As to the "basic knowledge" bit. I have to laugh. You are just asking to leave your teeth on some bar floor or parking lot. This guy has never taken a beating, nor spoken to anyone who has. There are little guys who are monsters, and big guys who, this side of splitting maul, you're not going to generate the energy to do anything but get them mad.
This guy is the classic example of bringing unarmed whits to a gunfight.
Get a gun, most any will do. Avoid situations like the plague, but for most people, the scum come hunting, and Mr. and Mrs. reagular people, with their plain mini-van and ranch house with no-wash vinal siding......they, and their children are the prey.

Idiots will be. And will be published as well.
I have a good bit of training in hand-to-hand, edged weapons, and firearms.
All other things being equal a 400lb crack-brained mugger will beat the hell out of an unarmed 120lb black belt while taking the money.
Handguns are the first best defense against criminals.
