I also recall that Carter sponsored a limited amnesty program for thousands of Cubans and didn't get re-elected, while Reagan sponsored an open amnesty program for millions and did.
Hmmmmm? Historically it's a shame President Bush's plan isn't an amnesty.

I happen to back the President's loosely defined plan, the devil, if any, will be in the details when there is actually some legislation. As a matter of politics though, I am happy that the President got his word in instead of having to react to the Dems at a debate or on the campaign trail. Now all the Dems are left with is to further define a policy. As I said, that's where the devil really is.
