The word is that Pickering is the only one who would accept an interim appointment.

How do you propose we get 60 votes?

Don't project your dishonest, cynical and untrustworthy character on President Bush.

He proposed his Immigration plan because he thought it was in the best interest of the United States of America and we Americans. He appointed Judge Pickering to the Bench because it was in the best interest of the United States of America and we Americans.

He panders to no-one for political gain. He does not pander to Hispanic or Latino citizens for their vote, and he sure as hell doesn't pander to troglodytes like you who accuse him of pandering to Hispanics to get a vote. He exists in an exponentially more honorable, important and serious world than yours.

He's doing his duty, as he sees it. In honest commitment. Vote for him or not on your judgement of the policy value. Don't taint President Bush, or his policy initiatives, with any corrupt character motivations you employ.

Bush doesn't operate like you do. He has integrity.

I just question whether that would be done one day before the SOTU address and the same day as the Iowa caucus. Still, if he's going in that direction, he'd better do it sooner rather than later.

Oh, and I'd say the announcement would be done at a rally in Birmingham if it's done. If Bush schedules an event there, that's the reason.

This was the first fun day on FR in a long time. Stay out.

Fun maybe. Principled not ....unless you are a Republican loyalist.

Does that shoe fit you?

The inexplicable refusal to enforce the Mexican border + the inexplicable Amnesty For Illegals plan = New World Order agenda.

I don't know, there's something about the joy of Homeland Security rules/laws while the long U.S. southern back door is left wide open. We're defending the Homeland, all right! Formerly pampered terrorists will have to hoof it over the border with all the Mexicans. And His Excellancy, EL Presidente Fox demands that we put out watering holes for them as they break our laws, and provide American tax-paid medical assistance if they are injured in their illegal passage.

Maybe Oz is the wrong example, and Alice in Wonderland would be a better rational? Either way, we're screwed.

This is good, but why stop there? How many other appointments have the Dems fillibustered?

In for a penny, in for a pound I say.

Grant them ALL recess appointments and if the Dems carp and whine, give them a chit for the weep locker.

And how many recess appointments did Clinton make, and how liberal is our judiciary because of it? LOTS!. One recess appointment by Bush is next to nothing. He needs to do more of them, even if it is only throwing bait to the faithful.

"The word is that Pickering is the only one who would accept an interim appointment."

Well, why didn't Dubya just appoint Pickering 11:59 PM in January 1, 2005 -- one year from now?

As it is, that's all Pickering has left to serve -- ONE measley year.

Shake those pom-poms Arne!

I call 'em as I see 'em. The President played his hand badly, and not many of us believe the, ahem, the Goebbelian Line you have articulated so well here.

We may as well have been erecting a giant neon sign along the Mexican border, 'WELCOME TO THE HOMELAND SECURITY LOOP-HOLE ANNEX'

An appointment last year would have made more sense and sent a message to the Dems.

Dear President George W. Bush,

Hi. My name is rdb3. I ask that you rescind your recess appointment of Judge Pickering, who is a truly fine man and justice. I ask that you rescind it because for "conservatives," this appointment just ain't good enough and they still hate your guts.

Thanx for your time, Mr. President.

rdb3

P.S. Slap Saddam for me while you're at it.
