It wasn't until the Republicans nominated Reagan - - - a "right wing extremist" as the moderates called him (before he was elected) ---- that the GOP really took off. When the moderates ruled - - remember Nixon and Jerry Ford? the GOP was a small minority in Congress and lost to Jimmy Carter - JIMMY CARTER - in the white house race. WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN MODERATES TAKING THE PARTY BACK TO MINORITY STATUS!

When Reagan ran for re-election in 1984 he was attacked for many of the same things (out of control spending) and by many of the same people (or their spiritual heirs) as are now attacking W.

And that was before Reagan initiated his amnesty for illegals plan.
