The author is a Marine named John W.Thomason, Jr

His two books are:

AND A FEW MARINES

and

FIX BAYONETS!

Stories of WWI and Haiti and Nicaragua and China and Sea Duty in the early part of the 1900's.

Race, thank you. I assumed the drawings were from the titled "Rifles" (by R. H? Gannon?). This was the way I got it from g'nad - the poem with all the illustrations.
