Muslims do not require nuclear weapons to be good Muslims or to convert others to Islam.

Just boxcutters, eh Ahmed?

Somebody's definitely off his feed today. A peaceful rapprochement between Pakistan and India is characterized as a disaster, a peaceful end to Libya's very real WMD programs is characterized as a lie and a failure, a peaceful transition to a non-theocratic government in Iraq is characterized as a horror - I think I'm happy when this guy's unhappy, and I suspect the normal world is as well.

What seems to be humiliating this individual isn't totalitarianism (he means us, which is the biggest hoot of the essay) or imperialism, but the failure of the Arab world to kill enough people to suit him. That should speak for itself.

Now about this "Qur'anic" business - here we have a fellow who thinks stonings and amputations are peachy keen complaining about human rights abuses in Israel and comparing the Taliban, of all people, to the former, admiringly. It should be clear here what standard this author is applying - it's laudable (in fact, quite in accordance with Shar'ia) to beat people for missing prayers, but an outrageous abuse to build a wall to keep homicidal mass murderers at bay. Clearly we are not dealing with a rational culture here. And our response to this individual and to people who are "humiliated" by the entirely just defeats that thugs, murderers, and despots are taking here is a simple one. It is force. This individual is not amenable to reason, is not responsive to a single set of laws for all, and will not cease inciting murder until the ground under his feet is wet with blood. The discourse he has chosen and the only one that he will recognize as legitimate, is blows. Blows he shall have.

Of course they believe it.

Most people in this world view Osama as a hero, not as a terrorist.

Where secularism reigns supreme....keeping a bomb or two ......doesn’t make any sense at all.

But if we have an Islamic state,......

"Islam" hits "Rock Bottom" when an "Erstwhile Islamic Leader" attempts to Impose his "Religion" on others--& Fails!

Those of us who were Born to "Western Values" CANNOT ACCEPT the "Tenets of Islam" unless we Abandon our Values.

"Islam" is INCOMPATIBLE WITH "Western Culture!!"

Until the "Purveyors of 'Islam'" can convince the "West" that "Islam" is a Better Way, "Islam" has NO CHANCE of supplanting Western Culture.

Most of Us "In the West," regard "Islam" as a Dangerous Cult, Capable of Producing "Homicidal Maniacs."

There is NO "Equivalent 'Death Cult'" in Western Culture!! Maybe "Islam" should Consider WHY it is the ONLY "Religion" which Glorifies Death (Suicide)!

Like every other conceivable thing, Musharraf’s surrendering Pakistan’s nuclear weapons is just a matter of time.

From this hemorrhoid's lips to God's ears.

Sounds like this guy has realized the jihad is almost over and he has to wait hundreds of years for another resurgence of islamism.

It will give Musharraf some solid justifications for surrendering Pakistan’s nuclear weapons into “safe hands.” The hands in which the weapons are most probably already secured. Just a formal ceremony is left to glorify the ultimate surrender.

If this is true and we already have de facto control over the Pak weapons, it is good news, very good news. Mushi probably realises that the Kashmiri terrorists and other Islamic terrorists encouraged by his predecessors want to get rid of him, so he's decided to give his nation another chance to redeem itself and develop.

people and its leaders – who surrendered their faith for secularism

huh? Pakistan's creation was the real factor that started the modern Islamic movement, it was the first state in modern times founded just for people of one religious group, no other common point.

We need to encourage this attitude.

"What seems to be humiliating this individual isn't totalitarianism (he means us, which is the biggest hoot of the essay) or imperialism, but the failure of the Arab world to kill enough people to suit him. That should speak for itself."

What speaks for itself is that a nominally "respectable journal of liberal thought" gave this Jan character a pulpit for his insane and thoroughly despicable preachings.

This is not the kind of article a magazine that wants to taken seriously should publish. The Nation should be ashamed of itself. Katrina Van Den Heuvel should join a convent. Or, better yet, break out her burqa and join a mosque.

The India-Pak reproachment is needed for South asia to grow. Right now Pakistan is a pawn in the CHinese game to prevent a threat on it's southern flank. This IS the new great game. China will grow in the next 50 years. H***, by 2050, they could challenge us. They'll wait, content in their belief that the earlier challengers to the middle kingdom have all disappearedd -- the Mongols, the Japanese, the Soviet Union. but the only thing that can scare them is an even older continuous civilisation rising as a threat. That's why they keep trying to emphasise that India is just a regional player, a desperate move to ignore a rival.

After all, they also do know that substantial points of their culture do have an Indian origin -- Buddhism, the martial arts, etc and it proves a marked contrast -- a democracy as opposed to a totalitarian communist state.

The chinese may never adjust to democracy -- they've never experienced it in their 2700 year old history while Alexander encountered old city republics when he invaded north west india.
