I think that the point is if there are WMD's in the Middle East in the hands of regimes willing to distribute them to psychopaths intent on using them, then we are justified establishing an offensive position in the midst of that nest. The rhetorical politicos feeding on mendacious conjecture have concocted a non-issue involving the emminent threat of Hussein's WMD's as justification for the Iraq invasion, when no such justification was presented nor needed in light of 12 years of violations. Iraq exposed itself as a justifiable target for strategic initiative in a larger offensive in an ongoing war; not unlike the invasion of Normandy. As such, Iran is just as much a threat (possibly more-so) than Iraq was. So, quibbling over where WMD will come from is irrelevant. Getting rid of them and destroying the regimes that wish to employ them to committ mass murder on a phenomenal scale is the primary strategic objective.
