HI, Travis, you and I must ask for forgiveness for our 'bad thoughts' about this ship. Those Canadian frigates are toy ships, but I am glad that some Canadians are actually going to be in the Gulf. We can't let Canada turn into a new Sweden or France.

Yes, I must apologize. And the Halifax ships seem anything but obsolete. Mea Culpa.
BTW, great to see Gambo in Antarctica!

I recall that Te Kaha was on station off East Timor as part of the combined task force supporting Maj-Gen Cosgrove's intervention.

Yes, it seems you are no one if you haven't been to Antarctica these days! I must admit the photos are breath-taking. January's Cruising World has an article on the trip.

If Iran decides to get into the act with their Kilo-class attack submarines or Pakistan goes over to the enemy, having a dedicated ASW warship might not be a bad idea. Especially since the US Navy has retired or given away most of its ASW destroyers and frigates (the Spruance DD's and Knox and Perry FF's and FFG's) and has not yet replaced them with the new littoral combat ships.

On the trip by Gambo???? For real???? I have to look for it!

I thought we upgraded the Spruance and Perry ships.

Unfortunately not in most cases. The Spruance's are being decommissioned at a rate that will put the last of them out to pasture in 2007-8, and many of the older Perry's are being given to countries such as Egypt, Bahrain, and Poland. All of the Knox frigates have been discarded, and the plans for building the new multi-mission littoral warfare ships have run into major budget issues.
To: Travis McGee
The ship is 10 years old. Thats 7 years younger than the VELLA GULF. The Ticondoroga class Cruiser that We sent with them. They also keeps their ships in MUCH beter condition the we do.
To: AppyPappy
American OHPs are nowhere near the ship that the Canadians have. I've been on those frigates and they are far and aways more advanced then the Perry or the Spruance class destroyer.
To: maica
Acually. That Frigate is in EVERY way. Superior to our own OHP class and is more than a match for most of our surface ships. Its unfortunate that the Canadians don't sell them or the designs to anyone.
