Beasley won The Governorship in 1994, 49% - 48%.

Beasley lost because more Democrats voted in 1998 than in the past several elections. He actually received more votes in 1998 than when he won in 1994. The video poker spent gobbs of money on GOTV(I know just one spent 15 million) and that cost Beasley the election.

Beasley is already polling in the low 40's, and he just got in the race. With no money raised and no press.

On what issues did Beasley reverse himself? He stayed firm on his Pro-life, Pro-gun, pro-business, and traditional value stances. He always was against the lottery and because he was against it some republicans voted for Hodges. Voter turnout was the highest it had been in years. The Demos just got more out to vote than the Republicans did.
