I disagree that Rush's statement was foolish. The statistics bear him out. The Eagles offense is run oriented and McNabb's throwing stats don't rank him in the top 10 in any of his years as a starter. His teams have won on defense, and have never reached a Super Bowl. Only one black QB has won a Super Bowl, and Doug Williams was a pocket passer. I think his assertion that McNabb is considered a top QB by the media when the stats don't support it is evidence of him be correct.

It's irrelevant whether the statement was foolish or not. The media found it's chance to go after Rush, and they took it. He should have used better JUDGEMENT, knowing how much they despise him.

Perhaps more to the point, has there ever been a quarterback who had as many endorsement deals as McNabb with as few team accomplishments to his credit or with such middle-of-the-pack individual statistics? The guy is in more commercials than any other player. He is very good, but also overrated.

As a huge fan of "The Magnificent Number Five" I'd have to say that at the point he'd made that statement he was correct.  McNabb was very average most of the 2002 season (save for the Cardinals game in which he played with the broken leg), and was undistinguished in both of the playoff games.  He didn't show much in pre-Season, nor did he in the first two games.

Still THE MEDIA just loved him.  John Lott proved this with an extensive Lexis Nexis search and analysis.  Yet time and again, you hear the "racist" label or "Limbaugh said McNabb can't play because he's black" in an attempt to distort reality.

Well, I think you're hitting it on the head. QB rating is a stupid stat that only measures passing & it also takes into account, in part, the percentage of touchdowns per pass attempts.

If you have a decent running game & a great defense then there should be less reason & opportunites to pass as you play a ball control offense. If you're in a ball control offense of this type with plenty of rushing TDs then of course your QB rating will be lousy.

I'm no big McNabb fan but I probably couldn't find five NFL quarterbacks I would take before him.

Rush's statement wasn't foolish,it was idiotic in the extreme. One of the dumber things he has ever said on air. Not that I ever had any respect for his football knowledge but that comment embarassed him and marked him as one who has NO idea about the NFL outside the rotten STeelers. Any one with the slightest idea about the NFL would kill to have McNabb play for him including Bill Cowher.

He will be the best qb in the league after Favre retires (if he ever does.) As a Bears fan I can only fantasize about having a qb of McNabb's stature and ability. The last time they were in the playoffs McNabb played one of the best games I have ever seen a qb play and beat them. He was unfricking believable.

Russ should apologize for letting his supporters down with such crappy comments and admit he was dead WRONG. But he won't.

I disagree that Rush's statement was foolish

1. I disagree with Rush that the press was hyping McNabb because of his color. They hype everything and everyone that they think will catch on Favre's father etc etc and thre are so many black QBs these days that it doesn't matter anymore
2. Rush should not have been castigated like he was for his opinion . You would have thought he wanted to bring back slavery
3. BUT Rush was a victim of his own EGO. He thought he was so big he could get away with a NON PC comment.
As an NFL WANNABE he let his emotions color his common sense

I double guarrantee HE NEVER expected that backlash he got because after all he was the great one who only needed an audience for his logic to be seen and appreciated
