No one has earned it more that Flutie
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Flutie. Please. Another LOSER...
Bring up stats all you want. The only stat that counts is the W in the win column. Just ask Doug Flutie.
I should apologize I guess, after all he did win a few Grey Cups didn't he. Just like Chuck Fusina winning the USFL championship. Or Tommy Maddox in the XFL
Jake Delhomme, Doug Flutie. I guess next you'll be bringing up Quincy Carter or some amazing Seattle Seahack stat.
Dont take my word for it check with the NFL
Look here quarterback ratings.
You're right, you are wrong. What Rush was trying to splain was that McNabb was not playing well at all and was, at best, an average QB. (This was noted by plenty of articles written by sportwriters aplenty before Rush made his statement) But the press felt compelled to talk up Donovan McNabb and even his endorsements were going through the roof despite the fact that he was an average quarterback. He felt that it was due to the press and the racist views that the world needs to see a black athelete succeed at the quarterback position so we can get this whole issue of race behind us.
Why? In my opinion, because in a preemptive strike against anyone that might want to call the media racists (when the subject of racism comes up, all these sports guys are as phony as a 3 dollar bill), all they have to do is hold up their coverage of Donovan McNabb up and say, "See, we're not racist, we like Donovan!"
Why McNabb and not others? This year was supposed to be Philly's year. They got bushwacked by the Buccaneers but they were coming back on a mission, a little northeast sports bias perhaps, and besides, McNabb was the best candidates to jump on the bandwagon for because he was black (obviously), intelligent, personable, attractive and best of all, he was clean. And "clean" means "safe". No rape charges, no little Donovans running around all over town, no mugshots taken after beating up his old lady, he was never accused of taking a dump in his girlfriends laundry basket, you know, the little things that tend to turn people off.
It wasn't a matter of how good he was, he had star qualities and marketability due to his boyish smile and a clean record.
Of course, all that could be crap too and it could just mean that Aaron Brooks, Steve McNair and Daunte Culpepper all need new agents. As Deon Sanders said, while he was at Florida State he realized that DBs don't get payed as much as QBs and other stars so he had to come up with a shtick to market himself better so, presto change-o, in comes, Neon Deon, Primetime! Deon was never going to be a Hall-of-Famer but that didn't stop him from getting the coverage (read: CASH).
Bump for Monday morning...
And.....QB ratings mean virtually nothing. There are soooo many nuances of the game (strength of running game, play-calling, QB rushing yards, individual game strategies, etc) that QB ratings mean very little.
There's a reason no one paid any attention to them for decades after people devised them.
That said, I'm not a big Mcnabb fan but would take him on my team. And he wasn't deserving of a Pro Bowl spot this year.
If Cunningham were on the Eagles of today in his prime, McNabb would be holding a clipboard.
Since when has winning a SB been the measure of a great QB? Obviously you've never heard of Dan Marino. Manning has won the same number SBs that McNair AND McNabb has- none. Unlike McNabb, Manning has shown steady improvement in his tenure in the NFL. And I admire the hell out of Steve McNair because the man plays hurt almost all the time and rarely complains.
But what you fail to address, is that (like Rush has said) McNabb unfairly gets all the credit for Philly's success. Philly's defense has made them what they are. But you wouldn't know that by listening to NFL pundits. At least with teams like the Chiefs, Pats, Colts and Titans, the praise is spread equally among the entire team. And speaking of the Pats, wouldn't you agree that they've been the NFLs best kept secret? I mean really. How many non-die hard Pats fans knew this team was 14-2? Now tell me, other than being in opposing conferences, how is it that Tom Brady doesn't get to the Pro Bowl, but McNabb does?
As for being a Philly/McNabb basher, I am neither. Like everyone else on this forum, I have favorite teams, and teams I dislike. Philly is on neither list for me. So keep trying to turn this into a 'everyone hates Philly/McNabb' or 'its stylish to hate McNabb' argument all you want. Anyone who follows the NFL ardently knows that your crying is just that- crying.
So his accomplishments consist of one playoff win? Let's not get on the phone to Canton just yet.
And I notice that you neglect to mention how Pennington did in his second playoff game (vs Oakland).
Vick also went on the Road and took GB down In GB In the playoffs...
That game he threw for a grand total of 117 yards. And then the following week? (Three turnovers, no touchdowns, lost game)
Watching Randall was like watching an albatross throw and a gazelle run. He wasn't the best QB in the world, but he gave it what he had and was fun to watch.
Its nice to see you judge individuals by one game. If that's the case, then McNabb truly sucks, because I can give you at least 4 this year and several last year where he looked like a junior college player. You are obviously so entranced in your love of the Eagles that you can't even see objectively that McNabb is not the QB savior of this league, as he has been made out to be by so many. Nor is he the reason Philly has done so well. If I feel for anyone, it's the Eagles D, who doesn't get enough credit because of McNabb. Hell, I can admit I'm a Lions fan, but I can also know when to say they suck, who sucks, and why they suck.
As for Vick, he was the flavor of the week last year. He got hurt ( as his style of play will dictate), and McNabb became the next one to tout. Does the NFL play favorites? Hell yes. Anyone who knows anything about Brett Favre knows that NFL pundits think he's a God, perhaps at the behest of the other Pakcers players. But Brett has over the years compiled the stats and record to back up some of the idol worship (and I am the farthest thing from a Favre fan).
If that's what Rush was trying to say then I doubly disagree with him. McNabb is not an "average" QB. Tommy Maddox is an average QB. Trent Green is an average QB. So is Tim Couch and Marc Bulger. McNabb is a very good QB. Not "great". Not yet, anyway. But a step above your average journeyman.
