Many of the people you would deride as "crazies" are the ones who have helped pave the way over the years for the sustained "GOP" majority because they refused to be kept in line.

Like the folks who worked to hold the Clinton-Clinton-Gore administration accountable for their treason while in office. The GOP establishment didn't want Clinton impeached over the ChiCom money for nuclear secrets scandal. In fact, they didn't want him impeached at all. They had to be forced by those "crazy, unappeasable conservatives" into impeaching Clinton over the felonies committed in the Paula Jones case.
