Just a thought, but all these accidents closed down both Major Arteries leading out of the Baltimore area.

Tanker trunk on fire after crash on I-95
Highway closed in both directions at Interstate 195

A tanker truck and several automobiles collided and the truck burst into flames around 3 p.m. this afternoon in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Howard County near the Baltimore County line.

Police were unable to say whether anyone was hurt because firefighters were too busy trying to extinguish the blaze, which engulfed several vehicles and spread into woods and a field next to the highway.

A tanker truck could be seen on television spraying foam over the blackened highway. Traffic was stopped in both directions and backed up in both directions for miles.

The State Highway Administration said highway crews are working on setting up a detour.

Television pictures showed charred and twisted metal wheels and an axle that appeared to be the wheels of a tractor-trailer.

yes. this is something for homeland security to watch, even though the odds are low, shutting down major access roads to cities is actually quite easy. and when events seem to occur together, although likely a coincidence, it bears watching.

Thanks be to God that this did not happen in the Harbor Tunnel, which seems to be "protected" only by a sign warning that the transit of vehicles carrying flammable material or explosives is "prohibited."

The Maryland State Police, Baltimore City and County PDs, and the Baltimore Harbor Authority should be doing more than posting signs in these perilous times, but I'm not willing to wager that they will until it's too late.

Actually, given the fact that the Islamofascists no doubt already saw the yesterday's conflagration on Baltimore area and national TV, it's already "too late."

Despite the traffic mess that would cause, all trucks of all sizes should be banned from the tunnel forthwith. In addition, smaller vehicles should be "sniffed" by K-9s and chemical sensors -- and not searched, with the Constitution rightfully in mind -- as they pass through toll booths for explosives, flammable materials, and drugs (the tunnel is on the I-95 "drug superhighway," after all.

I live in this metro area and know that there are plenty of other less-dangerous ways to provide access to Baltimore -- and other locales accessible by traffic tunnel (e.g. Boston, NYC) for that matter.

And squeamishness about "ethnic profiling" be damned..... .........
