I think, then, that a better statement would be that we should hold EVERYONE to a higher standard.

At the same time, we must also recognize that the two situations are hardly equivalent. A local politico who is a corrupt two-bit criminal is of no national consequence; we already know the dire national consequences of retaining a corrupt president who commits rape and other high crimes with disturbing ease.

<< Shay's [sic]is garbage. >>

Shays is repeatedly re-elected by his north-eastern constituents.

Near neighbors of those who elected the Cli'ton carpetbagger.

God save our beloved FRaternal Republic from its rehuddled masses.

THE HYPOCRISY AND CORRUPTION OF CHRISTOPHER SHAYS

by Mia T , 1.12.04

Republican U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays added his voice Monday to a growing chorus calling on Gov. John G. Rowland to resign.

In a news conference at the state Capitol complex, Shays said he had been prepared to forgive Rowland for lying about accepting gifts from employees and a state contractor.

"
But I am not prepared to stand by a governor, even a friend, who has done wrong, lied about it and then refused to account for his actions," said Shays, who is serving his ninth term in Congress.

COMMENT:

Note that Shays had concluded that bill clinton raped Juanita Broaddrick "viciously and twice," (i.e., that Shay had concluded, at a minimum, that clinton "had done wrong, lied about it and then refused to account for his actions"); yet Shays voted NOT to impeach bill clinton. Quite amazing.

While we should hold everyone to the higher standard, we must, at the same time, also recognize that Rowland and clinton are hardly equivalent situations, legally, ethically or pragmatically.

A local politico who is a corrupt two-bit criminal is of no national consequence; we already know the dire national consequences of failing to remove a corrupt, self-serving president who commits rape and other high crimes with disturbing ease.

The Democratic Party's Problem Transcends Its Anti-War Contingent2 ADDENDUM 12.13.03:

As for pathologic self-interest, check out Richard Miniter's C-SPAN interview; the interview is contained in my latest virtual hillary movie (above), hillary talks:ON TERROR; it is absolutely devastating for the clintons. Miniter lays out in sickening detail the clintons' monumental failure to protect America.

Note in particular Madeleine Albright's shocking reason given at the time of the USS Cole attack why the clinton administration should not (and would not) respond militarily. It tell us everything we need to know about the clintons. It tell us why clinton redux is an absolutely suicidal notion.

Notwithstanding their cowardice, corruption, perfidy and essential stupidity, the clintons, according to Albright, made their decision not to go after the terrorists primarily to enhance their own legacy and power. The clintons calculated that such inaction would MAXIMIZE THEIR CHANCES TO RECEIVE THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE. No matter that that inaction would also maximize the terrorists' power, maximize America's danger.

WASHINGTON -- Two Norwegian public-relations executives and one member of the Norwegian Parliament say they were contacted by the White House to help campaign for President Clinton to receive this year's Nobel Peace Prize for his work in trying to negotiate peace in the Middle East.

There's been speculation in the last few months that Clinton was pursuing a Mideast peace accord in an effort to win the prize and secure his legacy as president.

AIDES PUSH CLINTON FOR THE NOBEL

At the time, clinton observed: "I made more progress in the Middle East than I did between Socks and Buddy." Retrospectively, it is clear that clinton's characterization was not correct.

Mia T, Buddy Death Report Raises More Questions Than It Answers

Hamilton (or Madison) discussed the importance of wisdom and virtue in Federalist 57. "The aim of every political constitution is, or ought to be, first to obtain for rulers men who possess most wisdom to discern, and most virtue to pursue, the common good of the society; and in the next place, to take the most effectual precautions for keeping them virtuous whilst they continue to hold their public trust."

(Contrast this with clinton, who recklessly, reflexively and feloniously subordinates the common good to his personal appetites.)

here was a third chance to get rid of the clintons. In '98, when there was still time to stop bin Laden...

The failure to remove the clintons in '98 was a monumental error and is directly traceable to the logic of pathologic self-interest.

Recall in particular:

  • THE LIEBERMAN PARADIGM: (clinton is an unfit president; therefore clinton must remain president)

  • THE SHAYS SYNDROME: (clinton is a rapist; therefore clinton is a fit president)

THE LIEBERMAN PARADIGM

Senator Joseph Lieberman's bifurcated Monicagate speech in 1998 on the floor of the Senate was almost universally misperceived as an act of honesty and courage.

In reality, it was neither.

Reduced to its essence, Lieberman's argument was this:
clinton is an unfit president;
therefore, clinton must remain president.
I call this argument "The Lieberman Paradigm."

Lieberman's argument that sorry day was rightly headed toward clinton's certain ouster when it suddenly made a swift, hairpin 180, as if clinton hacks took over the wheel. . .which they probably did.

What was Joe promised? A place on the 2000 ticket?

To be fair, it was not the Lieberman speech but rather a New York Times apologia that institutionalized this shameless scheme to protect a thoroughly corrupt and repugnant--and--as everyone except The New York Times now acknowledges-- dangerous -- Democrat regime.

The Lieberman Paradigm made its debut in The Times' utterly loony 1996 endorsement of clinton. The Times actually argued -- NOTE: this is NOT satire on my part (nor is it satire, as far as I can discern, on the part of The Times) -- that although bill clinton was a "corrupt," "dysfunctional personality [with] delusions" -- The Times' own words -- we need not -- we must not -- remove bill clinton; we need only remove.the character lobe of bill clinton's brain.

THE SHAYS SYNDROME

Not an aberration, the Shays Syndrome was quickly adopted by the entire Senate as its impeachment show trial deus ex machina of choice.

Shays, you may recall, examined the evidence in the Ford Building, concluded that clinton did, indeed, rape Broaddrick -- "VICIOUSLY!" AND "TWICE!" he declared at the time-- and was planning to vote to impeach; he changed his mind, however, after a tete a tete with the rapist.

Any cognitive dissonance Shays may have experienced rendering that verdict was no doubt assuaged by the political plum clinton had given Mrs. (Betsi) Shays...

Each of the 50 senators, on the other hand, cured the cognitive dissonance problem pre-emptively by making certain not to examine the damning Ford Building evidence in the first place.

In a novel twist of logic and reality during the First Rapist's impeachment trial, the co-rapist portrayed the endless string of clinton rapes as significant clinton public policy, euphemistically dubbing chronic clinton predation "ministering to troubled young girls."

Mia T, First Rapist's Rose-Garden Escape: The Full Story

There is reason to believe that he is a rapist ("You better get some ice on that," Juanita Broaddrick says he told her concerning her bit lip), and that he bombed a country to distract attention from legal difficulties arising from his glandular life, and that. ... Furthermore, the bargain that he and his wife call a marriage refutes the axiom that opposites attract. Rather, she, as much as he, perhaps even more so, incarnates Clintonism

When Alex kills a woman during a rape, Alex is sent to prison.
When clinton rapes women, girls, his country and God knows what else. . .
and kills? --- check out those fourscore-plus deaths, please!
And don't forget the wag-the-dog, desperately-seeking-a-legacy bombings,
or the cold-blooded Ricky Ray Rector execution---
not clinton but society is imprisoned,
imprisoned in clinton's
besmirched, semen-stained, feckless presidency.

A risible and repulsive result;
yet not even the punch line.

While Alex is conditioned in prison with aversion therapy,
transmuted into a moral robot who becomes nauseated
by the mere thought of sex and violence,
bill clinton and his Thought Police,
in a perverse reverse aversion,
have conditioned society's collective brain
into not mere acquiescence but twisted admiration.

In the end,
if clinton's arrogant, ruthless, reckless nature is restored to him,
it seems the joke will be on all of us,
for it will be a victory for infinite victimhood and irresponsibility,
for seduction, for violence, for nihilism, for anarchy.

We will have set apart clinton as the hero
by making his victims less human than he;
we will have allowed clinton to carefully estrange us from his victims
so that we can enjoy the rapes and the beatings
as much as clinton himself does.

I am an 8 year member of the Republican Town Committee of Redding, CT. I know Chris Shays personally. I have registered both official and personal pleasure and at times displeasure with his behavior as a congressman. Expressed displeasure includes a number of his positions during the Clinton years. It will now include his expressed cowardace in comments he made recently regarding terrorist fears ( and soon backed away from also) in Times Square at New Year's celebrations.

Over the weekend our RTC Chairman asked that we submit our views on the Rowland situation since he and other RTC Chairmen were to meet with Chris and with Rep State Senator, Judy Freeman to hear from the hustings.

This is what I wrote to them, and copied our Repub state reps and fellow RTC members. A number of fellow Redding RTC members who also have the privilege of knowing Rowland personally have endorsed what I have written as follows:

"Rowland needs to come clean with us...the footsoldiers who are sent out there to defend him.

I've heard all kinds of things, among them:

1. He beat his first wife

2. He's beat his current wife

3. He's fathered a child out of wedlock with the head of the Department of Children and families

4. And, now, he's admitted to lying about which contractors worked on his cabin (as though that should have mattered), and whether they did him any favors.

You know, I just hate it when Republicans choose to act like Democrats.

Some may recall when Paul Silvestri came to a Redding RTC meeting at the Mark Twain Library some years ago looking for support. He was Rowland's man. He's now cooling his heels in jail, Still, as a person, I trusted Rowland, and the bigger issue of tax-reduction that I hoped he'd lead on. Sadly, though I now questioned his judgement regarding who he'd choose to associate with.

We got no help from Rowland on the Connecticut Light & Power thing. Why? Because he chose his friends at CL&P over Redding's interests perhaps? Wanna bet he never had to worry about ever having 345 kV line running next to his lake cabin? Again, what's his judgement say about who he chooses to associate with?

So, now, he still wants my trust and support?

If I didn't think I knew better, I'd have concluded that Rowland has been taking his political hubris hints from Bill Clinton.

All that indiscretion on his part aside, can we finally have a Republican in office who is going to start acting like a Republican, and leading like a Republican for a change?

Is Rowland going to tell us all the truth, and give us confidence that he is in fact a standard bearer for us now in ways he hasn't been in recent memory? Do we have reason to believe that Jodi Rell is a better standard bearer, and will deliver on the things we thought we voted Rowland in there to do in the first place?

Let's be aware of one thing: for Democrats its only all about power. It's ONLY ever been about power.

To have scum on the opposite side of the aisle and in the press sitting in disingenuous judgement of you is bad enough, but he's handed his and thereby OUR collective heads on a platter to them. If Demos use Rowland's behavior to come into more power by default and to push Republican's into the wilderness where they can then proceed to rape CT citizenery of their wallets and freedoms for years following, we as CT citizens and Republicans have alot to fear.

Come clean, John Rowland. Are the Feds going to get you? If they are, don't force CT Republicans to wear Slivestri-style egg on our face. We don't need surprises. Just leave, and hopfully you won't pull us all down with you.

On the other hand, if all the accusations are false and Demos are pulling a power play, grow some balls for a change and FIGHT! Show the Demos you won't be rolled, and do it with leadership and some convincing hint of righteousness. Expose the Dems and the press for what they are, stew every last one of them all in their respective indescretions, and run them through.

If Rowland doesn't own it, MAKE Rell take the high ground and OWN it. Connecticut doesn't need RINOs (i.e., "Republicans In Name Only"). RINOs may themselves hold power for a time, but they will never own the high ground EVER.

Take the high ground if you still own it, John. If you own it I am behind you inspite of my disappointments with your leadership in other areas. If you don't own it, then for all of us, CT citizens and Republicans, step aside and have State Central find somebody who can.

Republican's must hold the high ground if we are to be successful for Connecticut in the long run."

I am conservative Republican to the core, but I am also not into self-righteous self-immolation which causes the good to be the victim of the perfect. I don't necessarily fault Chris or Judy here. They have heard what we have had to say. My only interest is that of Connecticut, where I live, and how best to stem the tide of liberalism in this state. CT will certainly go to hell should Democrats regain the Governor's mansion. The question now is how best to hold it. If Rowland is not the best standard bearer for this task and for conservatism in general, we need to identify who is.

Well, here it is - this is the real fruit of clintonism. Not that hypocrisy is a new thing, it's just that it has been made stock and trade from now on. Not only that, but the press and electorate (by now, well acquainted with the taste of sh*t) can actually stand to listen to some craven weasel polish his 'honor' in spite of the magnitude of perversity in his logic and actions.

In some ways, the clintons were like a mountain range - that is, taking in the magnitude of their deceit is not possible with a single glance. In fact, the overwhelming corruption negates the abilities of an observer to gauge the wrongdoing since nobody's scale was ever calibrated to the scope these people trafficked in daily. Unfortunately, an ongoing cost of the clintons is the field day it creates for the petty criminals and shady operators that politics increasingly attracts.

Shays and those like him are small and ugly frauds but clintonism emboldens men like this to become worse slime than they would have ever become left to their own cowardly devices. They are not principled men and, therefore, totally unreliable in times, like now, when principled leaders are especially needed.

The great poison that insects like Shays represent is in the weakening of principle in the face of evil. In my estimation, it is a far better thing to fight a known enemy with a diametric agenda and treason in his/her heart, than to count such spineless rodents as allies.

The mountain-range metaphor is especially fitting for Sir Edmund's namesake. ;)

I suppose one could also argue the converse, that the clintons are like virulent viruses under perpetual, exponentially increasing magnification; appreciating the utter smallness of them is impossible since no scale was ever calibrated to such infinitesimal consequence.

Well stated. Nancy herself, and Simmons if I'm not mistaken failed to support the PBA ban. Republicans don't have alot to work with around here. When Rowland was what was known then as the congressman for the 5th district of CT, he was pro-life. That message from Rowland has been soft-pedalled since rising to the Governor's office unfortunately.

In 1991 I saw him speak at the "Ax the Tax" rally in Hartford, when we all marched in opposition to RINO Weicker's (then Governor of the "Connecticut Party") imposition of the Income Tax.

John's message, it appears, has become muddled, and watered-down. He has a hostile legislature. The House situation was always overwhelmingly (D); however, we have seen the Senate go from 19(R)-17(D)split when first elected to a 16(R)-20(D)split now. This may in part explain his "tentativeness" in recent years.

I have heard today that he is barking back at the press now saying he'll take them and the opposition down with him if they push too much.

Growing balls now, John? Good, it's about time. If you're innocent and will be vindicated, I say go for the jugular and re-discover the principles that you ran on and that got you there to the Office in the first place.

Some little bird always tells me that if you cannot support the weakest of us, the unborn, then selfishness rules your life. When you support the killing of the pre-born you have no morals. Without morals how can you actually have any purpose in your life and doings? You're either with God or against him.

On the current issue ... the unions didn't get the increases they wanted in 2003, the only force up in Hartford with any power to stop runaway govt growth, was Rowland. If the media, the democraps, and union can force Rowland out of office, the ecomony is over for CT. Spending will increase UNCHECKED.

This is decrocrap and union politics TO REMOVE Rowland, without a citizen vote. They're polluting the public opinion through the glad assistance of the state's media, both TV and newspaper.

On the abortion side, don't expect God to save Rowland either. He's cooked.

I am no Rowland fan, but I got on the radio this morning when I heard somethign Shays said, about not supporting Rowland anymore.

Shays is such a hippocrite, after what he failed to do, reading the evidence against Clinton, votes against impeachment, then his wife gets an appointment to the red cross

Now, What I heard from Brad Davis is that Shays was once out of his home for almost a year and ROWLAND put him up!

Rowland did a decent thing in supporting Shays who was basically homelss, and shays now, true to his traitor form, publically denounces Rowland!

It is one thing forme and you to say we want Rowland gone, and I do want him gone, but Shays had his butt saved by Rowland according to the account, and Shays acted like a moron stabbig his former friend inthe back like that

Shays should have just kept his mouth shut!
