Although I don't agree with some of Fox's positions, it is important to remember that although he is not a PRI member, a majority of the Mexican legislative body is. They are prety much anti-American, and often circumvent Fox's intentions. Mexico has a slightly different balance of powers.

A lot of posters think the two are in some plot together to create a common labor market in North America. In some ways, there is one now, albeit with frictions, and the "plot" is to make it frictionless. The problem is that few believe that Bush is serious about the "temporary" aspect of his immigration program. My suggestion to Bush is to provide some evidence that he is. But maybe that is a bad suggestion, since I suspect Bush's program even if enforced, would be very unpopular. Sometimes, voters can tolerate de facto more easily than de jure. And so it goes.

I don't think he's gotten a single one of his proposals through the Mexican congress.

Fox differs from us in some of his proposals, but he wants to reform Mexico, which is the real solution.

If he can't get his reforms through, Mexico will likely replace him, and then it's back to the past.

The fact that the majority of the Mexican government inherently believes the Southwest US belongs to them should be raising a lot of flags everywhere. If Russia decided to reclaim Alaska by sending illegals across the Berring Strait, would they be given an open chance like Mexico? I think not.
