SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A man who owns a string of adult novelty stores from Missouri to Utah was sentenced to 30 days in jail Monday for selling a sexually explicit video to a minor who had been sent into the shop by police. John Haltom, 36, of Lincoln, Neb., was also fined $2,000.
Haltom was convicted in March of selling the video to the 17-year-old daughter of a police official. She had been sent into Doctor John's Lingerie and Novelty Boutique in suburban Midvale.
Haltom's sentencing had been delayed until he finished a jail term on obscenity charges involving his store in Omaha, Neb. He also faces charges of distributing obscene videos at his store in Scotts Bluff, Neb.
Defense attorney Andrew McCullough said he plans to argue on appeal that Haltom was entrapped.

The same is done with alcohol and tobacco. When in doubt, check the ID.

The cops should be bought up on chargers for sending in an underage youth ( 17 ) into the store in the first place. Mean while drugs were probably being sold around the corner or stolen from the police lockup room in the police station.

Conceded. How old was Monica?

Sounds like some folks think there's a Constitutional right against having to check ID's or something. LOL!

What an idiot.....wonder what else he's sent his daughter to do, make sure the local pedophile ain't repeating....geez.

Now... suppose that the proprietor of this sleaze joint had asked her for proof of age and she wouldn't produce it. Would he have been required to call the police on her?

He sends his underage daughter into a store selling porn? As the father of a daughter, I will never send my minor daughter into such a filthy place.
She was probably made up like a whore to look older.
Why can't the cops find a real minor who bought sex tapes from this store?

I sat on a jury that tried this same guy for obscenity in Omaha.

A police official sent in his own underage daughter?
Was his name Sgt. Larry Flynt? What a moron.

In other news, serial murderer strikes again, as cops were too busy busting someone for a porno...

If she was old enough to send as a decoy into the store, she was old enough to shop there.

I sat on a jury that tried this same guy for obscenity in Omaha "Dr. John's" is still open 24 hrs a day and located on one of the busiest streets in Omaha. Its a sex shop where you buy sex things. If your not interested in sex things you have no reason to go into it.
This is about a bad employee, nothing more.

Haltom was convicted in March of selling the video to the 17-year-old daughter of a police official. Isn't it against the law for a minor to enter one of these places at all?
Shouldn't she and whoever told her to go in be charged?
