I wonder if there is any link with the Ainu people of northern Japan, or even the skeleton of the caucasian man unearthed in the 1990's in the Pacific Northwest that seemed to pre-date the local Indians (and immediately put under federal control so no scientific research could be conducted that might upset Indian activists and the PC-apple cart)?

You're thinking of Kennewick Man and the Ainu. I think the Ainu were associated with and after the Jomon who I believe came before this 'red-headed' group in this article. The oldest Jomon skeleton ever found, in Japan, is 11,000 years old. Some do associate the Ainu with the 'red-headed' group of this article but, they are in the minority. The Jomon are associated with pottery defined as 'cord pottery. (Incidently, 'cord' pottery has been found in the ruins of the Olmec (1400-300BC) of Mexico...go figure.)
