NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A man and a teenager were arrested on charges they killed a pregnant pedestrian they mistakenly assumed that they had struck with their truck.
Nashville police charged Eliseo Marcelino-Quintero, 22, with criminal homicide and Antonio Dejesus Idelfonso, 17, with juvenile offenses. The two live at the same address in Nashville. Police said Marcelino-Quintero was driving his pickup truck along Plus Park Boulevard early Tuesday when the victim, Tracy Renee Owen, 32, tried to step back as the truck approached.
Owen stumbled on the curb and fell into a vacant lot, but the suspects thought the truck had hit her, police said. The assailants got out of the truck to look at her and Idelfonso then shot her several times with a .22-caliber gun, authorities said.
Owen, who was several months pregnant, was found dead of gunshot wounds several hours later.
Detectives said they found the suspects after witnesses reported that they had been involved in an earlier shooting at a nearby apartment complex.
More on the killing of a pregnant woman in Nashville by at least one illegal alien:
Two men are charged with killing a pedstrian in South Nashville earlier this week. Now authorities say that they could face additional murder charges - for the death of the woman's unborn baby. Tracy Owen was pregnant when she was shot five times early Monday morning.
22-year-old Eliseo Marcelino Quintero may have seen his last day as a free man in the United States. Quintero is from Mexico and, according to his attorney, is an illegal alien.
