The projectile did penetrate the side skirt which is 'thin' composite armour. Yeah, it probably wouldn't have made it through the frontal arc. Armor is much, much thicker up front (as it should be). That said, MBTs main role is to be able to take hits and destroy whatever is shooting at it. There is currently no better platform for that than the M1.
Having tanks like this allows us, and not the other guys, to define the battlefield.

"Please. For every super weapon we create, I'm sure a counter to it is just months in the making." What is the counter for a thermonuclear device?

I've seen pictures of what a Javelin missile can do to a "fully tactical" T-72. Suffice it to say that there would be no survivors and no salvagable parts.

Where did I see the new "striker" battalion covvered, on one of the channels, anyway, and the vehicles were wrapped in basically a steel cage, RPGs would either bounce off the cage, or waste their destructive power on buting through the cage, before they even got to the armor. it looked brilliant.

I would note that recycled T34s are still in use in some parts of the world. You can defeat a MBT IF you have the right weapon - if not, better have good running shoes.

Peaceniks on parade.
Especially effective when combined with leftist media and socialist governments.
