Fox Sees Eventual Elimination of North America Immigration Controls

Mexico's president says he can envision a day when immigration controls would be eliminated among the United States, Canada and Mexico. President Vicente Fox's comments follow a proposal by U.S. President George Bush to overhaul U.S. immigration policy.
President Fox said the Bush administration's immigration initiative that would grant temporary work visas to millions of undocumented workers in the United States is a step in the right direction.
Appearing on the U.S. television program Fox News Sunday, the Mexican leader was asked if he would favor scrubbing immigration barriers entirely between the United States and Mexico so that people on both sides of the border could live and work wherever they choose. "On the long, long-term, I think, yes, that would be the best for our two nations - or our three nations, including Canada. On the long term, this North American bloc can be the leading bloc of the world and be the most competitive bloc by working together and, through that, be able to keep increasing the quality and level of life of our citizens," he said.
Mr. Fox said Mexico never had any expectation of a blanket U.S. amnesty for illegal immigrants in the United States that would put undocumented workers on a path to U.S. citizenship. He said Mexicans who work in the United States remain proud of their heritage and their nationality, but are compelled by economic necessity to look for employment north of the border.
For years, Mexico has pressed the United States to grant some form of legal status to the millions of undocumented Mexicans who work and pay taxes in the United States. Last week, President Bush proposed granting three-year labor visas to illegal immigrants who apply for them. The visas would be renewable, but would not entitle holders to any special consideration for U.S. citizenship.
Some critics say the Bush administration proposal effectively rewards people for breaking U.S. immigration laws. Others say the proposal does not go far enough to address the needs of undocumented workers.
President Fox meets with President Bush Monday on the sidelines of the Special Summit of the Americas, which President Fox is hosting this week in Monterey, Mexico. Immigration is one of several topics that will likely be discussed. Trade issues will also be high on the summit agenda, including the proposed hemisphere-wide Free Trade Area of the Americas, which proponents hope to enact by the year 2005.

Be patient - my father thought the Soviet Union would destroy the world after Nixon resigned because Ford was weak on defense.
But 7 years later, Reagan became President and the rest is history.

the problem is that what Rove is doing now will change the election demographics in the US forever, Bush may well be the last Republican ever elected, at least with the term "Republican" having any meaning whatsoever.
I say this: long term, we may well have to cede the southwest back to Mexico to maintain any appearance of what the USA was. Just toss Texas, Arizona, NM and the southern half of CA over the wall.

I wouldn't say that Mexicans are proud of their heritage or their nationality, many are ashamed of their national leaders, and know next to "zilch" about their national history. Take it from one that lives here.

Not really, the Amnesty plan doesn't make it any easier for the Illegals to become citizens and it's far from certain that this bill will make it out of Congress.
Anyway, the Hispanic vote won't make a real impact on US elections for at least another decade because 30% of all hispanic population growth will come from Illegal aliens.
If the situation stays unchanged for the next 40 years then we are in trouble - but the future isn't here yet.
Again, don't count your anchor babies until they're hatched...

"Anyway, the Hispanic vote won't make a real impact on US elections for at least another decade because 30% of all hispanic population growth will come from Illegal aliens." You think they're not voting? Ask Bob Dornan.
You must not live in a border state. The Demorats have discovered that it is easier to truck illegals to the polls than corpses.

The democrats actually prefer using the old fashioned Black Inner City for most of their voter fraud.
Illegals are concentrated in states that are either solidly democrat or solidly Republican so Using Illegal alien vote fraud isn't their favored method.

"Not really, the Amnesty plan doesn't make it any easier for the Illegals to become citizens"
Oh really. There's a provision in this plan that ends our policy of granting children born here automatic citizenship? I didn't think so.
"and it's far from certain that this bill will make it out of Congress."
Rest assured, this is something that is guaranteed to happen. The democrats know that this bill will amount to importing potential democratic voters and the majority will vote for it. RINOs will realize that this will mean a large source of cheap labor to boost corporate profits. The only opposition will come from principled conservatives in Congress and we will be outnumbered.
