[history]
A few days ago, it was time to make resolutions for the new year. Now it is time to rue, or rationalize, those already broken. Tempus fugit; resolve weakens.
At the end of last week

Is journalism really a profession? Is it a necessary one? What do journalists take in journalism school that qualifies them, rather than other people, to be journalists? How did we get along as a nation before there were journalism schools when we only had poor unskilled people like Mark Twain to report for us?

"What do journalists take in journalism school that qualifies them, rather than other people, to be journalists?" At one time, J-schools taught the discipline of Who? What? Where? When? How? Then, how to structure the story so as to answer these questions for the reader. How to do research and investigative reporting, so as to follow up on the story. And, finally, how to maintain objectivity and not let your own agenda slant the story.
Journalism was taught as an honorable craft -- like welding.

I want journalists to quit trying to spice up their work with the thesaurus. That little tweeking they seem to like, actually takes away from the meaning of words. When illegal alien is the proper term, then don't try to call them undocumented workers, or any other fancy name. Use the same term 40 times in an article, that is okay.

Viewers Hope Journalists Reform in 2004...including Fox News. It's the Bot Network. I could not believe the softballs the pundits were throwing on the Illegal Worker Proposal issue. Disgusting. Lou Dobbs at CNN was by far the best, followed by MSNBC. Fox had better get a clue, or it's ratings will be going down instead of up.

This is a good idea, also the idea to look at the Foreign Press, very good, they should consider this one.

an occasional look at college newspapers,..." I like this idea as well. I would also like them to get an average person on once in awhile to ask their opinion. They don't have to be those dummies they get on the street that don't know what country they live in. Heck, there are thousands on this forum that would make good guests. Why does it always have to be some professor?

I would also like them to get an average person on once in awhile to ask their opinion. They don't have to be those dummies they get on the street that don't know what country they live in. Heck, there are thousands on this forum that would make good guests. Why does it always have to be some professor? It is always either an "average Joe" who is an idiot, or a credentialed leftist. Why? Because they can. And because excluding "average Joe" intelligent conservatives promotes the idea that we-the-people need our betters--namely, journalists--to guide us.
Why Broadcast Journalism is
Unnecessary and Illegitimate
