This guy getting the boot has more to do with bad ratings and an unappealing show than any Clear Channel consirpiracy. When he got moved out of drive time I was thrilled. I have a radio in my office that was pretty much stuck on KFYI for years, but after a couple of months of Goyette we had to start changing the channel in the afternoon. This guy was a bomb long before the war. He spent most of the last two years talking for 3 hours a day about the political machinations surrounding the building of a the new Phoenix Cardinals stadium. To give the guy credit he broke some major news on some of the stadium shenanigans and the subject was big in Phoenix for most of the year, but for god sakes we didn't need three hours a day 5 days a week stadium politics coverage. And he was obnoxious, pompous and a poor talker. I'd like to think he's getting the boot because of the emails that people like me wrote. Whenever I talked to other folks at his station they always got an earful about Goyette and I could tell by their reactions that they were getting that all the time. In the end he can blame Clear Channel all he wants, and his supporters can say his show was great and it's all CLear Channel politics but in reality it's all business. The KFYI lineup starts off with a morning guy Bruce Jacobs that is a likeable loudmouth libertarian conservative (imagine Michael Savage as a former sports-talk guy) followed by Barry Young ( a local icon, politically along the lines of Limbaugh), then Limbaugh, then Hannity, then Tom Liddy and Austin Hill (Liddy is a former congressional candidate and son of G. Gordon. Hill is a long time local host and voice of reason.), their show is over the top by design and pulls non-ideologues for some fun and humor during drive time. Then ending their lineup they have Goyette. He's a John McCain conservative, and a Goldwater guy like Hillary was a Goldwater girl. Most people who listened to and liked any of the previous 12 hours of KFYI would probably not like him. There are other stations for his brand of talk. Goyette on KFYI is like selling bacon at the kosher market.

For the benefit of Freepers outside of Arizona, the New Times (the newspaper that named Goyette talk host of the year) is one of those "free newspapers." It is 100 page weekly with about 80 pages of adds for strip clubs and escort services with the balance of the paper made up of reviews of restaurants, local bands, and columns akin to a 6th grade reading level version of the New Republic. Their investigative reporting is usually geared toward how "The Man" is out to get the little guy.
