This is a very perceptive article. Also, chilling...

then France has a difficult choice:... One of them--either the French social compact, or Islam as it is normally practiced--will have to go.

We, too, shall have to face this conundrum someday.

More sobering still is an increasing tendency among Muslim theologians to count France as part of Dar al-Islam ("the House of Islam").

This isn't an accident. It is part of their religion. No compromise, especially within the House of Islam. Otherwise, what's their's is their's and what's your's is negotiable - until they are in control.

Banning the veil is not about Anglo-Saxon constitutional niceties, it is about a clash of civilizations... (Frenchmen) have begun to fear that Islam is strong enough to overthrow it.

It has to be a stunning feeling, particularly with their experiences in Algeria, to realize France herself could be in for that sort of horror. Check out this little mind-boggler, Algeria War 1954-1962.

That is a problem for people of all non-Islamic religions.

France is going to show the way for Europe, no doubt to the detriment of their blood and agony as they once against face the Muslim horde.

France should have known better, given their past experiences. For that matter, so should we. It is something we will have to face squarely.

I don't think that France is facing the issue squarely either. Banning the headscarf in hospitals, schools and public buildings will do nothing but sweep the problem under the rug and make the situation even worse.

People with the same Islamic biases still will march on behalf of intolerance, political relationships with dictatorial Islamic regimes and anti-Americanism; only now, it will be harder to figure out whether the people pushing for these policies are Moselm immigrants (or their descendents) or people of traditional French ancestry.
