[history]
CHICAGO - (KRT) - They used to call someone like Brett Favre a "man's man," back when guys didn't have to talk about their feelings or take Lamaze classes or know how to make chicken artichoke soup with fresh tarragon. Modern enlightenment has rendered the "man's man" invisible, or at least forced him to cover up with a sarong.

Please. No comparisons to Joe Cool. Montana had eyes in the back of his head he'd make Favre look like the old Favre when he used to make boneheaded decisions and threw INTs all the time.

Brett Favre was an alcoholic and Vicodin addict who lied to his drug abuse counselors and set a great example for his daughter by having a seizure in front of her. But of course, good looks, a half-beard, and a southern accent cancel all that out, right?
Not exactly the kind of man I want to be.

Montana was always exciting to watch .. for me, anyway.

People make mistakes, OK? President Bush was an alcoholic and Rush Limbaugh was a Oxycontin addict, what do you have to say about that?

Brett Favre was an alcoholic and Vicodin addict who lied to his drug abuse counselors and set a great example for his daughter by having a seizure in front of her. But of course, good looks, a half-beard, and a southern accent cancel all that out, right? Is he still an alcoholic? No. Is he still addicted to Vicodin? No. I'm surprised that not every NFL player is addicted to painkilling drugs given the amount of injuries they go through? And do you think he CHOSE to have seizure in front of his daughter? And note that all those examples you cite come from 1995 and before.
Favre is a winner. He overcame his own personal demons and became a better man for it. He's one of the best ambassadors for football and sports in general and I hope one of these years Sports Illustrated thinks to make them their sportsman of the year. He certainly is overdue for that recognition.

Bart Starr says Farve is the greatest Packer of all time with the possible exception of Don Hutson

I would say Favre was the greatest Packer with the possible exception of Hutson and Starr.

The key word in your post is
"was". Brett has turned his life around. He had to. He was in danger of losing everything and had to make some hard choices. He chose God, family, and football.
Vince would be proud.:)

But he plays in the "two-hand touch" conference that is the NFC.

I love the fact that he still does Bergstrom commercials. He could have any endorsement he wanted and he still is the spokesperson for this local car dealership (well, Appleton.) Just another example of honoring his commitments.

Yep, Favre is one of the football's guys. It'll be a shame to see him ground into the turf all over the Linc for three hours tomorrow.

Did you see his MasterCard commerical? Hilarious.
Yes, he still does the Bergstrom commericals. Favre's a class act. He's a throwback to the athletes in the 50s who were people first, famous second.

Believe me, the last team the Eagles want to play is the Packers. Their confidence is simply not there - cold weather? Totally not a factor. Too high expectations for Philly - anything short of a Super Bowl victory is failure to the fans.

Oh, it's OK -- at least you don't have to wear a greasy cheesesteak on YOUR head...;-)

Being an alcoholic is not something to be ashamed of...not doing something about it is. I think he has more than redeemed himself, to his family, himself, and for what it's worth..to his fans.
