The President is also wrong to sow division in the Republican Party as he has with his desire for Amnesty. Loyalty is a two-way street. The President needs to choose more wisely between Illegals and the rank-and-file.

I know that this is pretty much of a pro-Bush forum, but, even that I voted for him and probably will again, he does frighten me. He is too much of a zealot. Witness, for example, Patriot Law 2. Listen to Ashcroft and, if he doesn't raise some concern, then I'm going to have to cut back on the spinach (my only vice). We all have to begin to think through all of the issues involved with immigration, globalization, etc. I say this very sadly, but the USA is in decline. We are rapidly losing our economic base by shipping jobs offshore, our balance of trade is scary and the dollar is being pummeled by the euro. It's time we all wake up and at least start dialogues with our friends and associates as to what the problems are and what we might be able to do to augment them. God Bless America, but let's not let it slip away from us.

How do you all propose that we going to get millions of illegal aliens out of the country? Interment camps? Gunpoint? How do some mass graves grab you--that's how some countries deal with population inconveniences.
How do we force Mexico and the other South American countries that ***can't support them*** to take them back? Do we go to war? What if they shoot down the planes rather than let them land? Who do you think would be blamed for those deaths? THEY DO NOT WANT THESE PEOPLE BACK. We, however, might just be able to make use of them, assimilate them, make them part of an economic recovery. How we whine at the small inconveniences of our lives! How many mornings have any of us awakened to find the rest of our community wiped out by guerillas? We are so freaking spoiled! There is a humane aspect to this problem. And it is a fact that labor goes where it can find jobs. If they couldn't better themselves here they wouldn't be here.
Bush is doing SOMETHING about this rather than just passing the problem on to the next President--as EVERY OTHER ADMINISTRATION has done. He is requiring that the illegals who are here at LEAST be SELF-SUPPORTING. That's a huge step in the right direction.
The alternatives are geopolitically impossible. The status quo is too dangerous and politically favors the Dems--and terrorists! You want Dems back in power, people? Want Clark with his promises in charge of the next 9/11 aftermath?
Then: Ignore the Hispanic vote! Give it to the Dems! Hi, here you go, maybe you can use these votes, we're too white to want 'em. Most of these illegal immigrants are getting tied to this country by anchor babies--and those anchor babies WILL vote. Note--the anchor baby concept was stupic, but is NOT Bush's fault!!! He has to deal with that card because it was in his hand from the start!
Unlike most sky-in-their-pie dreamers, this President is willing to work with the hands he's actually dealt. His proposal will actually give us more control over the borders, something we haven't had for far too long. This is one of the three things I told him in several emails he MUST do to retain my support. I didn't tell him HOW he must get control of our borders, only that he must do it.
And now conservatives are stabbing him in the back. I'll tell you I think most of the opposition to President Bush's proposal is barely-disguised racism and a failure to come to grips with the problem as it actually exists. These people are HERE. They are here because for the most part they were going hungry in their native land. They can't go back. We can't make them go back. Maybe turncoat conservatives can pretend that this will go away if we close our eyes and yell "I CAN'T HEAR YOU! I'M NOT LISTENING!" but it's not. President Bush is making a brilliant move here that will turn a substantial liability and drain on the country into an asset. Now it's up to us to help him enforce the corollary--if they don't have jobs, THEN they have to leave. That's something our local law enforcement won't do if we don't tell them we support it.

Nothing like a little shameless hyper-bole....:) I propose....bounties...20 or 30 bucks per illegal...they must be returned to a collection point in good shape... Fun for everyone...and make a little Wallmart money on the side....

If only this were true I'd take back every negative thought I've had of him since that speech.
Imagine that, the President of the United States putting American citizens first.

No, Internet camps! But seriously, most of them come to work. So, if there's no work, many of them will go home, right? So, we do what we used to do, and what worked. We do interior and border enforcement. Interior enforcement is way down; other than Wal*Mart, when's the last time you heard of an INS raid?
We also restrict giving welfare benefits to illegal aliens except in the case of emergencies.
Those things and a few others will a) encourage millions of illegal aliens to go home, and b) send the message that coming here is not worth it.
Anything else is just doing what we've been doing for the past 15 years and somehow expecting a different result.

If CLINTON had done what Bush did several days ago, why here on FREE REPUBLIC, he would have been REAMED up one side and down the next by everyone here, even the Bushbots.
Unforgiveable.

If Clinton had proposed this it wouldn't even be open for discussion. That's what makes the hair turn white more than anything.
