The point being, "the country" survived just fine.
The country moved ideologically to the left between 1880 and 1940. The primary reasons were the economic dislocations from industrialization, innovations of agriculture, and immigration.
If you look at the labor movement, the socialist movements, the progressive movements, and the communist party all of these were dominated by immigrants and their children and grandchildren.
Take a good look at immigrant voting patterns and tell me again that America will be fine.

Cracking down on employers would work just fine.

You are confusing anarcho-Lbertarianism with Conservatism.
Protecting our country and borders is a legitimate power of the government.

What happenbed to our Republic? We failed to keep it, Dr. Franklin. I'm with ya, they are sapping our vital bodily fluids.

Why work at $5.50/hour without benefits if you can get the same from the government for doing nothing? Local McDonalds starts their workers at $8+ an hour and their management starts near $30K per annum. Almost all workers are immigrants because rural and ghetto native-born trash are too lazy to work.

I'm for deporting all the lawyers to Mexico. Great idea - an airdrop.

That poor dear. I hope Rep. Tancredo's constituent services staffers helped her get services from all the social welfare agencies, public and private, that she so desparately needs. Perhaps you could organize a fund-raiser--I think a telethon is a bit over the top.
And if her husband is a framing contractor, the type in the construction industry, I hate to tell him, but it's a dying job, taken over, not by illegal aliens, but by technology. The majority of frames are being made, not on site, but in large plants, cut with the assistance of computerized machines. I hope Rep. Tancredo can help her husband get retraining.

you did.
And if they don't actually work better, but the CEO or homeowner has heard that Mexicans are the way to go, and pressures the contractor to hire them
sure, some people are foolish enough to insist on slothful workers, but not many, and not for long.
slothful workers have to be protected by laws (i.e. unions, discriminatory immigration practices, tariffs, etc.).

WHAT I hear from you is that the contractors would prefer to hire the ILEGALS I wonder why ,could it be that these people would take lower wages and not complain about how they were treated, gee sounds real good if your a contractor.

At least you acknowledge that she's a real person -- we're making progress.
It's pretty obvious that the local "civil servants" in her town who are pledged to fair treatment of all citizens are cowards who have allowed themselves to be intimidated by foreign-born thugs. I think the only thing we can do for people in her predicament is to turn the invasion back.
To: Dan Evans
So what "border state" is she from? Tancredo doesn't say.
If she does exist, I do hope Tancredo's staffers, though, helped her get the welfare handouts she wants. After all, it's our tax dollars at work.

I hope Tancredo doesn't give out any more information about her -- she's likely get to get payback from Latino stalkers who don't like Anglos speaking up.
But this is really a good argument for getting rid of the welfare system don't you think? After all, most illegals wouldn't be here if it weren't for handouts.
To: Dan Evans
But she wants her welfare handouts--and, if she's the author, writes a inchoate, maudlin piece of bathos and pathos because she didn't get to snark from the public trough.

I'm glad I read it. It reveals how fragile and easily corruptible our legal system is. It is quite chilling reading this letter and the other posts here and seeing how we are giving a class of people the idea that they are above the law.
And as for welfare -- well, she's going through a learning experience. She thinks that just because she and her husband obeyed the law and paid taxes all those years she's entitled to take advantage of the social safety net. Guess again. It's fun watching people get turned into conservatives isn't it?
To: Dan Evans
Yup. She wants to be another welfare leech.

How do you really feel about this, Catspaw? Are you against welfare leeches in general or are you just enjoying schadenfreude from seeing what you think is a conservative down on her luck?
To: Dan Evans
I'm against all welfare leeches in general. The solution to money problems is not to stand in line with hands out, waiting for the government to provide them with ENTITLEMENTS, but to work for a living, more than one job if one has to. If one can't, turn to family and church. But we don't owe them a living.

I agree. But it looks like she turned to the church and the church turned her away.
