Poll: Bush popular with Calif. Latinos
WASHINGTON, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- President George Bush enjoys a 65 percent approval rating among California Latinos likely to vote in the fall election, a new poll by PRM Consulting says.
The survey also found 74 percent give Bush high marks in the conduct of the war against global terrorism.
"This support, coupled with the strong Latino support that Republican candidates received in the recall election against a strong Latino Democrat, seems to be a strong sign that Republican outreach efforts and the president's own efforts have gone a long way in cracking the strong Democrat base within the Latino Community," PRM Consulting's Richard Babcock said Friday.
Locally, the survey found that 58 percent of Latinos had an optimistic view about the direction California was taking under new Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger while only 34 percent said the state was going in the wrong direction.
PRM Consulting is a California based demographic, survey and research firm. Its findings were compiled out of more than 1,300 telephone interviews conducted Jan. 2-4, 2004, in both Spanish and English. The poll has a sampling error of plus or minus 3 percent.

Taxes. We fell behind 1 year. Nice. One law-breaker whining about another. How pathetic. Hilarious letter though.

As a country and society, we have become so "open minded" that our brains have fallen out.
This just makes me sick....and I know because I have experienced much of what this lady writes about.
God help us.

Yeah, I'll bet our Latino-American citizens (and non-citizens) our very pleased with the way things are going. The borders are wide open, they get free money and health care and the police are not very interested at all when they happen to break the law.
On election day, however, I expect them to vote for city, state and federal candidates that are likely to continue to shovel the benefits in their direction -- or if they can't read too good, for whatever number on the ballot they are given when they get off the bus.

The borders are wide open,
Correction.
The borders are open only one way. There is no rush of Americans down to Mexico to take advantage of the largesse of the taxpayers down there. In fact, average Americans working in agriculture down there have to take out special insurance policies in case they get kidnapped for ransom.
So, the borders aren't exactly wide open.

It is not against the law to not have enough money to pay your tax bill. You're mean, Texas Dawg.

Kidnapping Americans must be getting to be quite the growth industry in Latin America.

#93 is another load of BS.
Thankfully folks who "think" (?) like that are in the minority on FR.

I know of quite a few men that want this work, contractors here in RENO hire alot of mexicans that speak no english and dont give a rats about AMERICA. why, because they would rather not hire whites? or because the Mexicans show up and do the job?
If there were equal amounts of willing, white workers available, would the contractors still prefer to hire Mexican workers?

Often times there is a "reverse" preference, yes. One's race functions in many ways like a trademark, at least to racists. ok, so, if a contractor says to himself, 'these mexicans will get the job done,' it would be wrong to hire them? It would be racist to think that?
If they work better (i.e. dependable, work as instructed, work competently) than Americans of comparable age and physical makeup locally available, why wouldn't anyone want to hire them?
Should the business man handicap himself by hiring the American vs. the Mexican with the green card?

And if they don't actually work better, but the CEO or homeowner has heard that Mexicans are the way to go, and pressures the contractor to hire them? That's the "trademark" effect. the market is too smart to let something that isn't productive go on for too long.

Is it possible that some of the indigent poor Americans refuse to work because of illegal immigration?
Illegal immigration lowers wages, especially in low-skill jobs. Why work at $5.50/hour without benefits if you can get the same from the government for doing nothing?
