Even if you were not, it is readily obvious that it did not work.At all.
Now you celibrate another version.
In your world, whatever that is, you might perceive a net gain.
In my world, we are screwed again.
My next door neighbor is a business owner.He works his butt off mowing lawns, no illegals or under the table employees.
He does not employ slave laborers.
The man I hired to clean my companies office is a small businessman.He works his butt off, and does a good job without resorting to illegal slaves.

This is a right to work state.
I grew up with unions, and I thought their time had passed, but I am willing to admit I was wrong.
It seems a whole lot of people in the USA think creating and maintaining a new slave class of people is acceptable.

I know where you are coming from. I do not like the situation either. However, this business is not going to be fixed. The Great American Middle Class will not survive the changes here now and soon to come.
