To judge by some of the comments I've seen here and elsewhere, Bush's proposal has not met with a big warm hug from many of his potential voters. It's not true that people who voted for him last time have no where to go. There's always just not voting.

I'm sorry it took me a while to think of this, and maybe someone has already thought of it, but:

Won't the Bush Amnesty raise the bar? When a Democrat is elected president, won't he be compelled to go even further, and give an even broader amnesty? There was a post a day or two ago listing comments from the Democratic contenders regarding the amnesty, and they favored something quite broad.

One amnesty will lead to another, and they will only get worse and worse as the Dems need to out-pander Bush.
