[history]
The Senate's most powerful Republican plans to buck his party's anti-tax orthodoxy and propose a record tax-increase package that is more sweeping and richer than the $1 billion plan advanced by Gov. Mark R. Warner, a Democrat.
Sources report that Sen. John H. Chichester, R-Stafford, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, wants the General Assembly to raise the sales tax a full percentage point, to 5.5 percent on the dollar, as well as boost taxes for affluent Virginians by adding at least one bracket to the income tax tables.

John Chichester and the Virginia Senate RINOs and their Democratic friends can muscle a tax increase package through but its dead on arrival in the House Of Delegates.

He was targeted and won by 2-1. This may be his last 4 year term so now the real Chichester will come out. He is a tax and spend statist.
To: Captain Jack Aubrey
This could cost the pubbies more than state seats, She needs to learn from the Govenator.

The Dems effectively control the VA Senate. Conservatives are in the minority in the upper house.

Because they, meaning democrats, figured out a long time ago, that they were more effective as infiltrator's. Blackbird.

Boy there is something I do not understand. The commonwealth gets more money each day, just from the growth of the economy. The local governments get more, without having to increase taxes, just from the property assessments.
The politicians make it sound like they are starving, but all they say they need is 1 billion in a 50+ billion budget.
And for that they cry about needing more $, but anybody can find 2 percent to cut. I'd rather they cut their budget, so I can keep spending and growing the economy.
This is a trojan horse anyway, once they get the sales tax increase, they will be taking more than just a billion out of the productive economy.

Of course, the idea of shrinking State payrolls never occurs to them. They might cut staff at the DMV just to gain support for tax increases ("see what happens when we reduce staff"). Of course, there are plenty of people sitting around contemplating their navels and writing worthless memos for their bosses and arranging morale-boosting staff retreats, and figuring out new ways to extort money so they can keep their jobs, or harassing/regulating businesses and individuals.

I saw this earlier this morning and just about puked. I am disgusted with the lot of them.
Not one mention of cutting spending. Not one. Just raise this tax and that tax.
I already have high blood pressure and this isn't helping.

This Chichester sounds just like the Senate President Jim King, R-FL, and former Lt. Governor and State Sen, Bill Ratliff, R-TX.

Richmond Times Dispatch ^ | Jan 9, 2004 | MICHAEL HARDY AND JEFF E. SCHAPIROI just learned this week that Michael Hardy's wife works as an advisor to the DemocRAT Party of Virginia and we already knew that Jeff Schapiro has been seen slipping out of Mark Warner's bed room.
