.... Mr. Pretentious, the policy is detrimental to the US and potentially ruinous. The consequences is an interminable series of compromises which results in oblivion. The Republican party is not a populus party at all, the Republicans know that the common American will always vote for a Republican for there is no alternative. IF Republican constituents expressed their displeasure at this circumstance, by voting for a presidential alternative, this would not be so.

"I have no pity and in fact would love to see Americans who hire illegals doing lengthy jail time or paying expensive fines.".. You are right.. withdrawing social benefits from illegals and fines etc. would cause the illegals to leave of the own volition. They would in fact repatriate themselves.

.. I don't disagree.. that immigration is his forte' ... but the alternative is national dissolution. (Guest worker program does not just include Mexicans.. ANY foreign worker... this will be exploited by large firms.. offering the replacement of American workers ..legally.. not having to deal with the H-1 visa.. there is no provision to prevent it..)

It's MRS and PRETENCIOUS is your middle name, dear. :-)
"POTENTIALLY RUINOUS " ? You can say that about just about anything.
Consequences is plural...hence it should have been followed by " are ", not " is ".
Your short term memory giving you problems ? Clinton in '92, Clinton in '96 ring any bells ? Staying home and/or voting for a fringer really, really, REALLY " taught " the GOP a lesson...didn't it?
And you imagine that you understand politics? LOL

The issue I am pointing out is we would be severly short if we shipped out all the illegal labor the market demands to function in a healthy manner. I guess we aren't as innovative as people like you would have us believe, then. I am sure we could get along without them. People might have to learn to cut their own grass. Or, invent and build something that might do it for them. I do not ascribe to the notion the we would be helpless without 11 million criminals in our midst.
In general Growth, Innovation, Productivity will all slow or reverse.
I guess you didn't read Krikorian's dissertation on this subject.
"But it's the second part of the response to a tighter labor market that people just don't get. By holding down natural wage growth in labor-intensive industries, immigration serves as a subsidy for low-wage, low-productivity ways of doing business, retarding technological progress and productivity growth." Found here.
I am sure you won't agree with it but that's just because you seem to have a personal stake in this issue.
The simple truth is that these people are not as vital as you would have us believe. In fact, the exact opposite is true. They are a drain on us economically; they are destructive to the American culture; and they are not loyal to America.

I guess you've convinced me, I guess if the whole country were populated with only the ivory white descendants of the english and german immigrants we would be better off.
Besides the Soviets were unbelieveably harsh on immigration and it turned out well for them. Scandinavia and Switzerland too, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait are probably even better examples, Well then there is North Korea. Yeah you are right, we should move our politics to be more inline with those countries.
I guess I have to be opposed to Free Trade too, and Support Big Labor. Wow, my beliefs are falling like leaves.
We don't have to remove them, just naturalize them!
It was fun, but this discussion is over.

P.S. Mark Krikorian is a journalist, not an Economist. He lists his many appearances on PBS and CNN even before his degrees from Georgetown.

You may be right about Walmart vs. Joe's drywall.
However, there is no disputing that they did not sue until they were arrested and being processed for deportation.
Bottom line is that for an illegal, if you sue, you will probably attract the attention of INS. If you don't, you stay to work another day.
It is a powerful incentive not to sue. We need tort reform as badly or more so than immigration reform. We need US companies to be able to hire and fire without being sued. Lawsuits are a major impediment to hiring. You don't put money into a bank unless you can get it back out. You don't put someone on your payroll unless you can get them out if necessary.

I have a pension when I retire and just put more into it. I'll got SS but not my husband. He was in the postal service. He has a pension, too. We have a little money invested in the stock market but we'll never get rich. We tithe our money to the church and christian school and I believe because we do that, God will provide our needs. It's one of God's principles.
