They could do even better if they had a mission requirement to lift so much.

"If you build it they will come." Haven't we had a whole slate of little puny missions to Mars because we can't get enough throw-weight behind a bigger craft? Real soon the President is going to announce a return to the Moon with a permanent base. They will need a 100-ton lifter and more.

The Mars rockets aren't Saturn Vs, but they aren't all that small either. A manned Mars mission would take a lot more than one Saturn V.
