Divers Probed for Giving Fish Champagne

1 hour, 24 minutes ago Add Oddly Enough - Reuters to My Yahoo!

WARSAW (Reuters) - Three Polish divers faced a police investigation Thursday for possible illegal fishing and animal abuse after a news photo showed them plying a freshly caught pike with champagne at an outdoor New Year's party.

Reuters Photo

"They may have committed offences of poaching and maltreating a fish," said Maria Niedziolka of the National Fishing Authority, which notified police of the incident.

The picture in Nowa Trybuna daily showed three frogmen neck-deep in a lake, with one of them tipping a bottle of cheap Russian bubbly into the fish's open mouth.

One of the divers told news agency PAP that they had found the pike half-dead and wanted to "restore it to consciousness by treating it with champagne."

It was not clear whether the fish survived. Police said it would not be needed as evidence in the investigation.

I wonder if there will be a herring on this case because those bass turds really did a crappie thing.

Cheap Russian bubbly? Why, that's the best champagne that ever came down the pike!

This adds a new dimension to catch and release.

With toothy critters like Pike and some salt water fish, I use a 14 inch Boga Grip which fastens two metal prongs on the fishs lower jaw. That temporarily stuns them. Then you can use your pliers to ease the hook out. Then you put the fish back into the water facing the current. When it starts to wag its tail, you release the Boga Grip. The fish swims away, a little bit wiser.

This easier on the fish, me and saves me the money that the bubbly would cost.

That fish is going to wake up with one hell of a haddock.

:) Hehe, good one!

I don't believe the scale of this. I conclude the guys had no sole and did it just for the halibut.

I myself simply can't believe that FreeRepublic has sunk to such a depth that the only stories people post are about booze and hookers.

POACHED PIKE WITH CHAMPAGNE SAUCE

Mmmmmm, yummy, yummy, yummy! However, I think you left out a few steps, such as ensuring that the pike is dead, and removing the crunchy outside parts and the squishy inside parts :-)

I caught 8 Crappies the other day, and they all died in my cooler. I had no choice but to fillet them, and put their remains in the freezer.

Come to think of it, there was a woman in a boat that past me slowly and took some pictures.

What's this Maria whatchamacallit look like?

ROTFL! Well, it's creative anyway. Still, there's something fishy about this story.
