There are some additions I would like to see to this plan. I would like to see the law changed to eliminate automatic citizenship for babies born to non-citizens - so called "anchor" babies. Unless the immigrant has already been granted permanent status, any babies born should be citizens of the parent's home country. Also, I would like to see a provision written into the law that if the worker or any member of his/her family goes on public assistance, the work visa is revoked and the family sent home. Additionally, if the worker is convicted of a felony, the family is immediately sent home, and the worker is sent home after serving his/her time in jail, and will be denied future work visas. Sanctions against employers who continue to hire illegals must be toughened and strictly enforced, including heavy fines and jail

And guess what?

None of that will happen

What will happen is that the 10-15 million here now will stay, bringing even more dependents and having anchor babies

The costs of governemtn programs for these people will be astronomical.

Many millions of new illegals will come into the US since Bush has signaled that the US border will no longer be enforced and the new illegals can expect to get amnesty themselves in the future.

Blue collar wages will continue to drop, social disorder will rise and Atzlan will begin to take shape.

Just take an issue with one of your points. One of the first parts of Bush's proposal IS to enforce borders. SO you are selectively taking his words and twisting them like so many liberals have been trying to do these last 3 years...

The you know who you need to vote against? Your congressman. None of this will take place without Congress passing the laws to eliminate anchor babies, etc. The plan Bush proposed is sound, get these people paying the taxes that many people complaing they are not paying, requires them to have a job, prevents them from bringing their family unless they can support them, etc... It is a proposal, and a good one. In what form it is passed and implemented is now up to Congress. If it passes without the protections you seek, you need to scream to Congress first. Everyone is talking about voting against Bush (that's real smart; last time I saw that reaction, we got 8 years of Clinton).

I don't agree with everything Bush has done, but he has done a hell of a good job on a lot of issues, and he has my time, my money and my vote in 2004.
