hair splitting that Bush's plan is not Amnesty because it isn't called that. One of the great things about FR is the breath of fresh air you get when reading posts from those who call it as it is. Playing Clintonian word games for partisan purposes sucked when Bubba's enablers did it and it sucks now. Your view may be different, I'll disagree but respect it but don't camaflogue it.

The question is, that there are 8 million illegals in this country. The other side is proposing outright path to citizenship for these people. Potus is proposing a common-sense solution. I wish it were as simple as getting the cops or the national guard or the army to come in and go find all these illegals and send them back where they came from. But lets remember that not all of the illegals are from Mexico (though a major part are), and imagine the chaos trying to implement a solution. It is NOT going to happen. So a guest worker program is proposed. I am asking for other common-sense solutions. I dont see any and I see this being a big problem that no one other than the great Ronald Reagan tackled, and he just gave amnesty. We have to tackle this problem one way or the other and have to look for common sense solutions. I invite your views on this..:)

hair splitting that Bush's plan is not Amnesty because it isn't called that. No, it really isn't an amnesty. An amnesty is a one-time grant of citizenship or greencard to anyone who's been here for a while, given because they've been here for a while. That is not what's being proposed because (1) it is not a grant of citizenship or greencard (2) it doesn't matter if you've been here for a while, only that you have a qualifying job (3) it's not a one-time thing (4) it doesn't confer a permanent status.
