It's 63 degrees here in the Arcata-Eureka area this morning. It is possible that Ore and Wash could have a major flood in the making if this turns into a "Pineapple Connection" and dumps warm rain on all that snow. They are saying it is setting up very similar to the "100 Year" flood of 1964...

Good morning, tubebender.

Not good. Maybe Oregon will share some of their Arctic air with y'all.

I think we're on the verge of being done with our five year drought. Snowpack is up, and it just keeps getting whiter in the mountains. Thankfully, even if we have a fairly quick thaw in the spring, the ground is thirsty enough to soak up a bunch before we, um, go surfing.

All this rain is screwing up another Steelhead winter run.

I think that since 1978, we have been through at least 5 hundred year floods.

My fishing buddies in the Ashland/Medford upper Rogue area have been snow bound several times since Christmas with more snow in at least a decade for this time period.

So if the Pineapple Express hits from your area up to about Gold Beach and goes Eastward, you and others had best strap a kayak on your back.

One of the guys in our Fly Club ignored the weather warning and had a close call on the Smith River in the past week. I didn't get to talk to him after the meeting, but he learned his lesson. Yet one of the Steelhead nuts in the club was still planning a trip up to the Smith and Chetco today with his fishing buddy.
