This issue is going to be FRs ongoing 2004 stupidity parade and "I'm sending a message not to eff with ME" clown act. How freeping boring.
Sorry to tell you folks, but this issue doesn't resonate with Bush's "core" supporters as any kind of betrayal. It will be seen for what it is ... a proactive, open and negotiable proposal to address a national challenge in a real world effective way. Bush garnered 50.5 million votes in 2000. 800 whiny Buchanan Brigaders and other flakey Third Party and Paleo dead enders on an internet forum do not represent ANY groundswell to throw him overboard. If you want to stay home in November, stay home. Who cares?
Anyone who'd abandon Bush over this issue is NO core supporter. Core supporters don't demand ideological pure servicing and tribute from the President and their Reps on every damn policy initiative.
As usual, the "realtrueconservativepatriots" here are shuffling right along in lockstep with Nancy Pelosi, Ted Kennedy, the AFL-CIO and Public Unions, and the folks at DU. It's just all about denying Bush and the GOP meaningful political wins.
They DID elect Pat to the presidency in Palm Beach County you know.
Nice twist. They may get in on legal visas, but they stay on expired ones. Nor do they typically stay where they say their residence says they will be on the visa. So they break the law by lying on their forms. And I said, "secure," for OUR country. Not held down as it is in Iraq. Still, a shame you can't answer those questions.
That argument cuts both ways.
There's that little matter of anyone who'd abandon their base, after all.
Question: When will the GOP learn that lesson about "ya dance with the one that brung ya"?
Answer: November.
