"We're talking about the future of the country here. I'm not prepared to give it away to anyone, let alone a third world country who has been in existence hundreds of years longer than the US. They're not our responsibility and it's time they stood on their own two feet."
Are you talking about Mexico? Mexico did not become an independent country until the 1820s, about forty years AFTER America became an independent nation. Before that, "Mexico" was a part of Spain, and before the Spanish arrived, the area that is now Mexico was populated by a few dozen fdifferent Indian tribes, the largest of which were the Aztecs. Mexico, as a nation, did not exist until the 1820s, with the rebellion that brought about independence from Spain.

I'm not talking about Mexico as an independent nation but rather as a collective people on the continent. The American nation technically began with the Puritans arrival in the early 1600s, even though it was under British rule till the 1770s.
But even so, as an independent nation since the 1820s, they're not doing very well. They need to stand on their own two feet, why do we have to take in half their population because they can't prosper for whatever reason? And I would feel the same way about any other country who was dumping their citizens on us in this way.
