So the President is suggesting that we trade a policy that is broken with a policy that is just waiting to be broken? No thanks.

Enforce the damn law before you recommend another law.

If the high-paid government workers can't enforce the law, fire them.

Sounds to me like they'll have to pay this new breed of documented temporary worker more money than your everyday illegal immigrant.

Which may mean that it will be more profitable for American employers to continue to hire illegals who sneak across the border without participating in this temporary worker scheme.

So, what's this all about?

Well, it makes Bush look good to liberal-leaning Americans (he's soooo compassionate) and to Hispanics, so he gains their votes.

Then again, the purpose of this may be the opposite from what we assume:

Maybe this guest worker program, by costing employers more, makes American labor more cost competitive, and so will result in more jobs, at higher wages, to real Americans.

And as for illegals who would sneak across the border without registering for this program, Bush can now say something like hey, I gave Mexicans a humane way to do this, now give me freedom to enforce our borders, after all, we need secure borders now more than ever.

Those here illegally can apply for the temp. worker license, then apply for legal citizenship.

BUT under current INS laws once you apply you MAY NOT BE DEPORTED except in unusual circumstances - you are "prucol" (person residing under color of law).

I believe that this DOES reward illegals; unless the fine is pretty hefty, l.ike say $2500. Right now those getting in under 245i only pay a small amount more.

I appreciate the members of citizen groups who have joined us today. Chairman of the Hispanic Alliance for Progress, Manny Lujan. Gil Moreno, the President and CEO of the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans. Roberto De Posada, the President of the Latino Coalition. And Hector Flores, the President of LULAC.

Wow, this is quite a gathering of representatives from several racist Latino/Hispanic/Mexican organizations.

Imagine, there are 8-15 million illegal aliens working in the US. Now all the political Tarzans want us to simply kick them all out.

This would be equivalent to deporting all the citizens of Minnesota (about 5 million), Iowa (about 3 million) as well as North Dakota (634,00) and South Dakota (652,000). This will not happen!

It is virtually impossible to identify and deport 8-15 million men, women and children. The President's proposal seems modest to me, but it could be improved by a tough proposal to tighten border security. The President is just not going to let this slide like his predecessors. Bully for the President!

After reading the text of President Bush's speech, it doesn't look as bad as first perceived. That said, the success or failure of this plan is in the implementation.

Temporary workers will be able to establish their identities by obtaining the legal documents we all take for granted

No, Mr. President many Americans do not take their citizenship for granted, you do. You just diluted every Americans citizenship by this traitorous proposal of rewarding criminals with Amnesty.

I, for one, will throw my vote to anyone except the puppet of Vincente Fox.

There is no difference between the Rats and the country club Republicans anymore. The RATS will take us to the third world at 100 mph and Jorge will get us there at 80 mph.

I think Dubya is in for the fight of his political life on this one.

He may well lose more votes among his traditional support base than he will pick up from Mexican voters.

Why make new laws to correct illegal immigration when the laws already on the books would work perfectly in our gubmint only had the integrity to enforce them.

If the old laws don't work, neither will the new ones.

This will come back to haunt, and haunt, and haunt, and ..

Don't make me laugh, Jorge.

The only thing we've got going for us is the politician's fear of us voting them out of office. It's the only power we've got, so let's use it!

If you've phoned, faxed and emailed already, do it again! Get on them morning, noon and night until this madness is totally defeated and the traitors voted out of office!

Get on your homeboys, people. Unless we get the numbers which will make them fear for re-election, it will be all over. There will be no going back. This is the showdown on the Immigration Issue. If you've been following along, you know that these people are costing the American taxpayers billions per year. They're taking jobs away from hardworking American citizens. They're draining our resources and giving very little back. This is it. If this is allowed to pass, we can quite literally kiss this nation goodbye. The massive population transfer that will take place is unspeakable. Do it now! Fight for your country and way of life!@

PUT A STOP TO IT NOW OR WE CAN KISS THIS NATION GOODBYE...LITERALLY.

It's NOT a migration, it's an invasion! Don't let them get away with this! SCREAM! Call toll free:
