From people like me who think Bush has tried to come up with a workable, middle-of-the-road solution to this problem. People who take a far right position are just as culpable as the Liberals who take a far left position.

One of the most annoying things about this whole argument is why the president is even doing this- what is his political motivation? Typically legal immigrants are very opposed to illegals so this cannot really be to bolster hispanic support. This cannot be good for jobs as good jobs are already in short supply (for the time being). The only reason I could see that this would benefit the president politically is he caqn be seen as standing up the mean, nasty, bigotted conservatives. I don't like being used as a pawn, particularly when the action has such a potential for disaster as this does. We here WWII analogies all the time in regards to the war on terror. If Roosevelt had suggested easing illegal immigration soon after Pearl Harbor, he would have been strung up.

Uh did it ever occur to you that this may not be politically motivated, but that the President is trying to solve a problem.

He has now acknowledged the problem. That's the first step. Now there is something to build upon, something negotiable, political currency.

Wow, that was a pretty big leap now, wasn't it? Ever stop to think that he might be coming up with a workable solution that isn't 100% right or 100% left but somewhere in the middle where both sides might see some value.

Now I am beginning to see why the Palestinian/Israeli conflict has never been resolved....people aren't willing to be reasonable in finding a solution.

Look for the most reasonable answer -

President Bush really does want to make America safer. All sorts of programs that will identify people are in the works or already commenced. The INS was a total basket case, and identified with the illegals more than Americans. The control of people coming into the US has been moved to Homeland Security. I am sure that a lot of change has been outlined in the philosophy, policies and procedures toward all persons entering the US.

"Ten million people people" living in the shadows was not helpful to any law enforcement agency. I see this proposal as going a long way to change that situation.

Type "summit of the Americas" in your favorite search engine. Go to the official page and read the policy that is being developed there.

Mr. Bush will speak at the next summit, which is next week in Monterrey Mexico. He will be able to report that he has begun implementation of their 1998 summit policy on migrants. The globalists that run the summit will be very happy to hear his remarks.

It was also in Monterrey Mexico that Bush announced the creation of the Millenium Challenge fund, a wealth redistribution plan (of our tax money) for "least developed countries". You will notice that he did not announce this plan to the American people before going to Mexico and announcing it there.

Watch the Summit of the Americas. Read the text of Bush's speeches while he is there and you will be very shocked at his "split personality". What he tells the American people and what he announces at these global summits are two very different things. This might help give you some insights into his seemingly inexplicable behavior toward immmiagration and the will of the American people.
