How many Americans would willingly do migrant work?

I spent a summer picking veggies. Pay me enough to live on, and I'd do it again.

You are an exception, really. How many welfare recipients have the same attitude? I dare say very few. Why? Because some where along the way, they were led to believe that they are too good for those jobs, that those jobs are beneath them. And instead of adopting the mantra of hard work, they adopt the attitude of why bother. It is truly an attitude shift in this country. The idea of working hard to get ahead is going the way of the dino, and is being replaced by the 'I deserve better' attitude.

Well, here are the facts:

1. Bush's plan will legitimize and legalize the millions of illegals already working in this country by giving them legal status to be here.

2. While this is supposed to be temporary, provisions are included for renewing the status after a 3-year period.

3. Bush said that families could come, which means babies born here who are automatically US citizens. We have provisions in place NOW to let parents of US citizens remain in the country...eventually gaining citizenship themselves.

4. Blue cards will lead to green cards will lead to permanent resident status will lead to naturalization.

5. While Bush does not call this "amnesty," I see no difference between amnesty and allowing people who are illegally in this country to stay and continue to work, with official legal status. That's amnesty.

Essentially, this is an open invitation to citizens of Mexico to cross the border, find a job, then gain legal status. Those already here are home free. Those who enter illegally will soon be home free. This is a very, very bad plan, indeed.

** Pay me enough to live on**

That's the point. How much is enough? Migrants work for beans (no pun intended) and most often live in a commune type environment to barely make ends meet.
