The only way this could work is if we simultaneously secure our borders and enforce the law on firms hiring illegals. Short of that, we are simply inviting more to come as happened after Reagan's immigration reform.

Right on the mark, unfortunately, we are well down the road to repeating the same mistake.

By that I assume you are saying that at least Bush is making an attempt to control the borders whereas the Dems are not. I agree on the Dems they are not an alternative to anything. But we shake down Grandma for knitting quilts at airports while millions cross our border illegally. We read everyones email while supporting alternative ID cards (maticula consular) designed to enable people to completely sidestep our system and the very premis of citizenship.
To say that President Bush has shown any more than token support for better border control is laughable at best.
