You seem to want groupthink.

That's interesting, because it appears that OWF's posts go against the group mentality displayed on this thread.

As if we needed more proof: 9/11 Changed Nothing.

Some stats on American Hispanics that should dispel the myth of Hispanic social conservatism:

Illegitimacy rates: unmarried Hispanic women aged 15-44 are about one-third again as likely to have a child as unmarried black women in that age bracket – 93.4 per 1,000 vs. 71.5 - and more than three times as an unmarried white women (27.9 per 1,000).(Source: Centers For Disease Control, pdf file)

Abortion: Hispanic women are two and a half times more likely to have abortions than white women (33 per 1,000 annually vs. 13) and nearly-two thirds as likely as black women (49). (Source: Guttmacher Institute)

Teenage pregnancy: Hispanics are high (about 94 per 1,000 vs. 32 for whites) and relatively worsening – they’ve now surpassed blacks (83 per 1,000). (Source: Centers For Disease Control, pdf file)

Dependency: Nearly one-third (30.6%) of Hispanics receive means-tested benefits, compared to less than a tenth (9.2%) of non-Hispanic whites and just over a third (35.0%) of blacks. Source: U.S. Census, pdf file

Criminality: just over one in every hundred adult male Hispanics (1.2%) was imprisoned in 2001 – almost a third of the non-Hispanic black rate (3.5%) and well over twice the non-Hispanic white rate (0.5%). Source: Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics, 2001, pdf file

Risky behavior: The Hispanic death rate from HIV disease is 2.5-times that of whites (7 per 100,000 vs. 2.8), and about one-third of the black rate (24). National Center For Health Statistics, pdf file

Congress won't vote for it and then the Prez is home free with a "humanitarian, compassionate" proposal that just didn't fly yet. How can he lose?

Uhh, we heard that same excuse re: CFR. Congress won't pass it, Bush won't sign it, SCOTUS won't uphold it, blah blah. Truth is W just dumped a big pantload on all legal immigrants and native-born Americans.

This will be the equivalent of bringing an entire new state of 9 million liberal Democrats into the union.

Retired Army General Dave Heister once told me the best solution is statehood for Mexico - that way they'd have obey our constitution!

Take it easy on this one - I don't agree with him.

No, instead they will be infected with Truth, Justice, and The American Way.

Then they too will become too good for those jobs and those wages and the problem is perpetuated.

BTW, don't you really mean Relative Truth, Lawsuit Justice, and The Redistributed American Way?

Cant get myself to watch the whole thing especially when he starts out with this storytelling about some wonderful marine who is hispanic. Please, does his speechwriter really and honestly believe that we buy that crap?

Sure lets all get warm and fuzzy thoughts about how American it is to open the borders and welcome.
WHAT??

Oh please speechwriter get a reality check!

I had to turn it off or double up on my BP meds.

Bush's spinmasters are out in full force in this thread. I knew they would be. I guess they got their talking points from Karl Rove this morning and are on the job.

"Bush's proposal would encourage employers to ratchet the payscale downward..."

In the end this is what it is all about. On this point there is very little difference between the parties. We better just face it; our parties pray to the alter of big business.

Unless the electorate revolts, this policy will never change on either side of the aisle. IMHO

He said this program requires these TEMPORARY workers to return to their country when the work is done.

If you believe that, then I've got some oceanfront property in Alberta to sell you.

And how, pray tell, is he going to enforce that edict? Appeal to their better nature not to stick around? You know once their "time" is up they'll simply work somewhere else off the books.

Bill Press is gushing over the amnesty.

Well since we keep giving the far Left everything they want, the least they can do is be happy about it.

MM, I really have to disagree with you on the assimilation. Where I live, I see NO effort at assimilation. It is too easy not to when there are Spanish radio & tv stations, newspapers, and even public school which teach in Spanish and English.

It's better than what we have now. And it monitors the companies that hire them and it monitors them. I don't see anything wrong with this.
