Hey, it would not be that hard or expensive. For example just the other day I had a thought on what to do if the Striker Brigades are wildly sucessful and the Army wants to retire all those M-1 Abrams tanks.....

Build a revetment about every 1 - 2 miles, install underground storage tanks that would hold about 5000 gallons of fuel, run power lines to each revetment and install underground transformers to provide unlimited power of the correct voltage to the tanks and roll them off the transports, drive `em into the revetments, hook up power and fuel, and . . . . .

PRESTO!

you now have a fully functional border repleat with overlaping fields of fire that can stop damn near anything. Each tank has built in night vision, (light amp and IR) wireless situation networking that can be controled from a remote location, is nuclear-biological-chemical proof and if necessary can disconnect from the stationary fuel and power, go mobile and hunt down anything.

SWEEEEEET!

Too bad about G.W., looking like another one termer bush.

"Hey, it would not be that hard or expensive."

Anything isn't that hard or expensive, if you're not the one who has to actually do the work.

"For example just the other day I had a thought on what to do if the Striker Brigades are wildly sucessful and the Army wants to retire all those M-1 Abrams tanks....."

Unfortunately, the Stryker Brigade will not be that wildly successful. TheAbrams will be around until they wear out.

Your proposed system requires a great deal of maintenance support in extremely remote areas. You are talking about six divisions' or so of tanks on the border, assuming the terrain is flat.

Unfortunately, the terrain on the border is NOT flat. That means that you're going to need these things more than every mile or so, eventually requiring more tanks than the Army has.

Further, the rough terrain on much of the border means getting these tanks to many of these sites is going to be impossible, because you can't drive the tank (or the tank transporter) to the deployment site.

Please confine proposed solutions to those that are congruent with the set known as "reality."
