The Redskins don't put up with drug and alcohol abuse. FB Mike Sellers was cut not too long after being arrested for DUI. Tony Peters was cut after his arrest and his attitude showed he wasn't willing to work out his problems. [Sonny Jurgensen and Billy Kilmer never missed a day of practice or a game despite their legendary carousing, so they can't be used as an example of anything other than what many players were like in the '60's and '70's.]
Dexter Manley tried to recover numerous times, and the team helped him with various programs. He was also a person who wanted to help his community, and admitting that he is illiterate was a gutsy thing for him to do. Finally, after the team was exhausted trying to help him, and his physical shape was not up to NFL standards, he was gone. At one point he was in a motel in Houston threatening suicide. Shortly thereafter he was sent to prison, which is about the only place where he could get his act together. I don't know where he is now, but I truly hope he is straight now.
Dallas, on the other hand, has turned a blind eye on numerous drug addicts, as long as they could perform on the field. And this goes back to the days of Landry, not just Johnson. Even though these are adults we're talking about, the franchise should try to interdict and help if possible. Then you have the Michael Irvin's assaulting teammates with knives or razors, the numerous incidents at strip clubs, etc., that happen with more consistency with Cowboy players than any other team.
Throw in the fact that the Cowboys team doctor diagnosed kicker Rafael Septien with a hernia, and Landry and the front office chose not to tell him so they could keep him on the field (and put his very life in jeopardy by doing so), and you can see why I shed no tears when Jerry Jones fired Landry who found out when reporters came knocking on his door. The Dallas Cowboys are an immoral organization. How Roger Staubach was able to stand his tenure there I'll never know.
I notice you don't give any examples under Landry. I'll give you one: Hollywood Henderson, who was dropped like a hot potato when his drug use became known.
Your assessment that Dallas was "immoral" sounds like sour grapes from a fan of a team which can't hold a candle to the consistency of the Cowboys over the years.
That, or you're really the Cowboy-hating girly-man, Skip Bayless.
You really need to get over the fact that you weren't wanted in Dallas anymore, Skippy.
Did you get this from Skippy's book:
Throw in the fact that the Cowboys team doctor diagnosed kicker Rafael Septien with a hernia, and Landry and the front office chose not to tell him so they could keep him on the field (and put his very life in jeopardy by doing so),
This is patent nonsense, or you just made it up.
You know, of course, that Rafael Septien was a child molester, don't you? Should Landry have "intervened" there?
Concerning Dexter Manley, the last I heard he was out of prison. He returned to RFK stadium for the halftime show against the Cowboys in the last appearance of the Skins at RFK - which the Skins won!
