The source for this article is "Insight" Magazine, not "Reason" as I cited. Note to self: Copy, don't go from memory.

What's behind the hatred of America?

That's an easy one. The self-loathing of the hater.

A very good, well-researched article.

Pity no one will ever read it...

Ha ha. Great review for a seemingly great book. Shows that the looney liberal left's lack of logic is as abundant across the globe as it is here inside the U.S.

Haven't read this one yet, but if it's as good as his previous, How Democracies Perish, then it's more than worth a try.

Revel, for example, doubts that anti-Americanism seriously can be challenged by rational thought and a careful mustering of facts.

This has been my experience with the American form of that disease as well. The Left doesn't seem to participate in real discourse anymore - it's nothing but a fire-hose spate of accusations, and when you address one they simply move to the next. You expect that from children, but not from otherwise perfectly intelligent adults. Strange.

As one who has been living in Europe for years now, I have become increasingly disturbed by the tendencies to blame America as described by the author.

I can confirm, for example, the mindless conspiracy theories which have gained all too common currency i.e. the Jews did not go to work in the Towers on 9/11 etc.

I am at a loss to explain the drift and I am familiar with the John Keegan article and agree with much of it but somehow the essence of the matter eludes my understanding.

First, my neighbors in Germany just do not believe that the war on terrorism is a rational response to a mortal threat. In other words, they simply do not see us in a foot race against the terrorists to destroy them before they blow up Pittsburg. They think we are over reacting. That it won't happen to them. That WMDs are not a realistic threat. That, in any case, we have brought the attacks on ourselves by our support for Israel.

There is more than a touch of anti christianity at work here. I have heard the most astonishing diatribes against home schooling which can only be attributed to that prejudice.

But on the whole the energy behind this phenomenon continues to escape satisfactory explanation.

"America largely owes her unique superpower status today to Europe's mistakes."

Mistakes? Somehow I can't dismiss the Holocaust as just a mistake....I bet alot of those who suffered greatly during the Holocaust feel as I do.

I believe that this anti-Americanism is caused by the fact that the United States doesn't need Europe as much as Europe needs the United States. They know it and we know it!!!!!!
